The Recruiter position is responsible for facilitating the candidate-facing aspects of the recruiting process; and for partnering with the Recruiter counterparts, Hiring Managers, College and Diversity candidates/consultant/recruiters, as appropriate, to ensure a quality candidate experience where the best and most qualified talent progresses through the recruiting process. Also responsible for initiating and closing the recruiting process for all assigned open positions within the organization.

Location/Scope: This position is based in either West Alice, WI or Schaumburg, IL. Additionally, the scope of the role will focus on supporting all or some of these business units: retail or sales teams, depending on the needs of the business. The position does require travel (26-50%) to campus and community events as well as other face-to-face meetings and trainings.

Community Engagement: Attends career fairs, college recruiting events, open houses, community events, networking events to establish presence, strengthen the Verizon employment brand, and create fluid, diverse candidate funnel for open positions. Working with campus and community leaders and organization to strengthen current relationships and establish new ones is a must.

Job Posting: Partners with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition Team to ensure the right job openings are posted for current needs and potential needs.

Sourcing: Responsible for building quality funnel through a variety of sources.

Resume Screening: Screens resumes submitted for job openings. Identifies top candidates and schedules for phone interviews.

Candidate Screening: Conducts phone screen of qualified applicants for open positions.

Candidate Slating: Works to manage candidate slate. Makes sole business decision on the status of applicants moving past the first phases of the recruiting process.

Interviewing and Assessment: Recruiter will be responsible for conducting interviews and scheduling assessments or further interviews as required. Recruiter is responsible for ensuring all steps occur in a timely fashion, with utmost accuracy and attention to detail.

Coordination with Hiring Manager: Provides candidate feedback to Hiring Manager. Liaises with candidates and Hiring Manager to ensure scheduling/execution of Hiring Manager interviews. Collects Hiring Manager feedback post-interviews, calculates salary of top candidate and communicates hire decisions for offers.

Pre-Hire Actions: Communicates job offers to selected candidates. Provides information on background checks and drug screens. Serves as guide to candidates through pre-hire screening process.

Onboarding: Partners with human resources and talent acquisition team to communicate onboarding details to new hires. Works with relevant business contacts to ensure onboarding is a success and facilitates Verizon Powerful Answers Learning Map (VPALM) on the first day of orientation as necessary.

Job Closing/Document Management: Facilitates closing of job postings. Ensures HRIS system is appropriately updated. Ensures compliance of Affirmative Action and EEO. Maintains any required documentation related to closed job postings.

Metrics: Responsible for meeting recruiting targets including college hires, military hires, stick rate, time to fill, and women in sales hires, etc.


  • Full-cycle recruiting experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 2+ years high volume recruiting/staffing and/or experience in a temporary assignment on the Talent Acquisition team is required
  • Strong computer skills and ability to utilize HRIS system; PeopleSoft experience preferred; proficiency in Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills needed to assess candidates and make recommendations for courses of action based upon data
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; experience building successful, productive relationships with senior members of leadership and human resources is preferred
  • Detail-oriented
  • Comfort with social networking tools; Demonstrated knowledge of attracting and engaging talent virtually is preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Facilitation/training skills preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Internet-savvy
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed
