What you’ll be doing...

The Next Generation Global IP Engineer will provide network management support on multiple networks including the VZ Converged Core, Public IP Edge, and IDN/VMNnetworks.

Network Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactive network monitoring, following established procedures when responding to network alarms and events.

  • Perform triage and initial fault isolation, and providing technical assistance to external teams.

  • Trouble Ticket management, Outage flash management, processing escalations.

  • Communicate technical details and status to customer service censers, technical support organizations and executive management teams.

  • Strong IP/MPLS networking background and knowledge of various vendor platforms.

  • Development of effective automation solutions and leveraging virtualization to drive effective network management.

The candidate will demonstrate:

  • A comprehensive knowledge of IP telecommunication equipment and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel, ATM, Frame Relay) and processes and systems as well as department of company policies and procedures. Knowledge of routing protocols (MPLS, LDP, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF), tools and experience with internal systems (IMPACT, ETMS, Vrepair, OASIS, MASTARS) is desired.

  • Ability to Interface with Vendor, Engineering and Service Assurance teams to support the network, services and customers.

  • Responsible for the collection and submission of network and service management requirements to IT to support the deployment of new platforms and services.

  • Execute on policies and procedures in support of strategic objectives.

  • Technical expertise to give presentations to internal and external leaders on analytics that support new platforms, network health, products and services.

  • Highly technical skills in tools/applications relating to router access, scripting, log searching.

  • Familiarity with and adherence to Verizon change management policies

  • Adherenceto tested Methods of Procedure for all Router maintenance work and also work with the router vendors to troubleshoot problems that fall outside maintenance.

What we’re looking for...

Must Have:

  • A Bachelor Degree or four or more years of equivalent experience is required.

  • Four or more years of prior experience in a technical organization that support network operations, for Layer – 0 /1/2/3 network that includes creation of processes and project management.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills,including excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capability to work with external and internal Verizon organizations coordinating and troubleshooting network events.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely and accurate network information to both management and other groups during network events and major outages.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Strong understanding of compute, network, and storage

Ideally, you will also have:

  • A BS in CS, EE, or CIS

  • Scripting with Python, No-JS, Perl, or equivalent languages

  • Experience and good understanding of the IT development processes for network and service management.

  • Experience Driving Automation Initiatives.

  • Experience with and knowledge of Cloud and Virtualized solutions (Openstack/VMWare)

    • Cisco or Juniper Certified Internet Expert

    • Optical Certified Professional or Carrier Ethernet Professional

    • OpenStack Certified Administrator
