What you’ll be doing...

In this role, you will be part of the Product Engineering Group of Verizon Smart Communities, responsible for designing and implementing advanced software modules in C++ that process video analytics metadata. The focus of the role is analytical problem solving, feature design and delivery that leads to customer satisfaction. Due to the multi-platform (edge device & virtualized device) nature of the development, module integration and protocol design / implementation is also part of the job.

You will work closely with product management, engineering management, architects, QA and fellow developers as part of a cross-functional agile team.


  • Function as the technical lead for the assigned feature: take major part in the architectural design process from the idea stage to the release.
  • Implement the feature in high quality and according to industry best practices in a version tracked codebase.
  • Drive the feature integration for multiple platforms, closely working with team members or external stakeholders.
  • Measure and monitor the performance of the feature and propose, design and implement improvements.
  • Regularly report / update the status of the feature in the issue tracking system and to engineering management.
  • Write or update the relevant documentation continuously.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Engineering or relevant field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Advanced object oriented design and programming skills, knowledge of design patterns.
  • Advanced knowledge in C/C++, with fairly complete knowledge of recent language updates.
  • Advanced knowledge in scalable, modular, multithreaded application design and implementation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong planning and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex tasks.
  • Advanced level English (both written and verbal).

Even better if you have:

  • A Master’s degree.
  • Ten or more years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in agile development methodologies (especially Kanban) and their implementation at a company.
  • Experience in source code version control systems (preferably git) and issue tracking systems (preferably JIRA).
  • Experience in industrial or embedded (resource constrained) system development.
  • API design and implementation experience.
  • Protocol design and implementation experience.
  • Quality oriented and “can-do” attitude to work.
  • User level Linux skills and/or scripting experience.
