What you’ll be doing...

The Sr Manager position is part of the CSX Communications Professional Services Organization Engineering Group. This position has an active role in CSX dispatch system and yard systems designs, implementations, and maintenance support, within a framework of good understanding of the CSX railroad/transportation business. The manager provides technical leadership, maintenance support, and project management for the CSX Communications Department.

Duties of the applicant will include but not be limited to coordination and management of several employees providing support for dispatch and radio systems. Duties include management of hardware refresh and software upgrades for dispatch and radio systems, management of vendors providing system components and coordination of upgrades with the CSX Transportation department.

Applicant must be familiar with railroad dispatching operations and have an understanding of critical operations and the necessity of performing upgrades without impact to operations.

Applicant must be familiar with the specific vendor equipment in use by CSX.Specific knowledge of Avtec dispatching systems to include a working knowledge of the Avtec Scoutcontrol system including the Outpost wayside controller interfacing to Kenwood NXR710 radios.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer five years experience with design and implementation of radio and dispatch systems in a railroad environment.

Skills Required:

Use of RadioSoft Software Programs for Frequency Coordination and RF Propagation

Use of Mentum Software Programs for RF Propagation Studies
Use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping software

Use of Spreadsheet and Database Software

Use of Microsoft OFFICE suite of programs for business/office

Thorough understanding of Radio Theory, Electronic, and Electrical Circuits

Heavy Industrial and Transportation Safety Skills

Previous experience in the railway industry is required. The applicant must have an FCC General Class Radiotelephone Operator License.

The applicant must have proficiency with personal computer applications to include RF Propagation Software and the Microsoft OFFICE suite.

The position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and work with an engineering team on projects.

The applicant must possess excellent communications skills, with emphasis on written correspondence and reports.
