What you’ll be doing...

As Director of Design Systems at Verizon, you will lead a company wide effort to harmonize how we create and consistently deliver high quality user experiences across web, app and conversational interfaces.

You will lead a cross functional team that will craft, standardize and champion the company wide move to a centralized, repeatable and scalable set of components that will be used to create Verizon’s next generation of digital experiences. This role requires a passionate collaborator who will work with different stakeholders to design andbuild components, reimagine processes and develop tools and workflows that streamline the product development process.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our design and engineering teams to co-lead the creation, development and maintenance of Verizon’s library of shared components
  • Lead the effort to unify existing design systems used by different teams
  • Lead the effort to unify Verizon’s ecosystem of apps
  • Lead the team developing the UI framework of commonly used primitives and patterns
  • Help define the short term and long term vision for Verizon’s Design Systems
  • Develop a roadmap and implementation/adoption strategy
  • Partner with design, engineering and product teams to evaluate, scope and execute work
  • Establish a governance process that keeps stakeholders connected and up to speed
  • Establish and refine processes for growing and maturing the library
  • Create quarterly objectives and define key results (OKRs) for the team
  • Develop tools that improve operational efficiency e.g. UI Kits in Sketch
  • Create and maintain stellar documentation
  • Lead planning, brainstorming and prototyping with designers, engineers and product managers
  • Evangelize the benefits of design systems and facilitate training across teams

This role is based in Basking Ridge, NJ and New York City.

What we’re looking for...

  • 10+ years in design, product and engineering leadership roles

  • 8 years of experience in software development

  • 3 years managing or leading a team of front end engineers

  • Very strong experience with React/Redux/AngularJS and other modern JavaScript frameworks

  • Strong passion for creating beautiful products that work well

  • Experience crafting and leading design systems for large-scale websites or apps

  • Proven track record of thriving in the face of ambiguity and complexity

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Mentor team members to help raise the bar on our creative thinking and execution

  • Direct experience working with designers, strategists, researchers, engineers and product managers

  • Experience leading cross functional teams responsible for delivering next generation experiences

  • Creative eye for persuasive, provocative, and effective communication. Able to communicate and work effectively with creative teams and digital designers

  • Persuasive verbal and written communication skills to influence senior leaders in a fast-moving and highly-matrixed environment
  • Exemplary storytelling skills and business acumen to simplify large and complex data into compelling recommendations that influence business strategy
