This is a highly visible role within the hardware product team and will require you to bring a love for complex IOT systems, highly technical information, and leadership capabilities to clearly define the next generation of devices using the best from Verizon. You will lead and influence your cross-functional teams and stakeholders to chart a new path for our intelligent devices ecosystem. This role has direct paths to people management roles in Verizon connect.


Project Management:

  • Define and manage the overall scope of the technical program & its projects. Create and maintain a consolidated timeline/schedule w/ major milestones & dates for project activities. Identify and communicate project dependencies and impacts; Putting mechanisms in place to ensure on-going control of the project (e.g., Kick-off meeting, Map days, overall Project Management Approach, Comms Plan, Risk Management, Issues Management, Change Control, Retrospectives etc.)
  • Clarify team roles and responsibilities through techniques such a RAID, RAPID.
  • Proactively communicate the project’s progress on an on-going basis, ensuring transparency throughout the project lifecycle. Provide leadership & key stakeholders with the information and venues to make effective, timely decisions. Keep stakeholders (internal & external) engaged in the project, aligned on expected outcomes and informed throughout the project.

Lean / Kanban Management:

  • Establish and manage lean execution processes for hardware, firmware, and field teams.
  • Ensure measurement, reporting & resolution for lean/agile team metrics such as Cumulative Flow, Lead Team, Cycle Time, etc. Help the team improve consistently on these metrics.
  • Responsible for facilitating team level ceremonies & delivery practices (e.g. standups, iteration planning, retrospectives, value stream mapping, Kaizen events etc), removing impediments to the team's success, and resolving conflict within the team.

Hardware Program Management:

  • Drive program delivery of IoT hardware and systems through lean prototyping, building, manufacturing, and delivery to market
  • Responsible for driving cross-functional team and partners to create high-quality, well-validated new products. Manage key new product planning & operations for pre-production builds from development build through production.
  • Work with mechanical, firmware and electrical teams to define & communicate manufacturing requirements to ODM partners.
  • Partner with quality teams to establish KPIs & process controls ensures strong quality & execution by manufacturing partners. Supports QA automation & validation process both with internal teams & partners.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience managing projects for hardware systems, IoT / industrial devices, device or firmware planning, development, testing, manufacturing, and deployment.
  • Experience with lean/Kanban and Scrum.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • An engineering degree in Industrial Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or in a related field.
  • MBA.
  • Experience operating in a lean product development environment, comfortable defining and leading both hardware and software development processes.
  • Seven or more years of experience in managing technical projects product development, program and /or product management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver highly complex & high stakes projects with multiple dependencies and constraints.
  • Facilitator of discussion and dialogue to drive various team planning events and activities.
  • Experience in challenging situations and overcoming setbacks during team events and execution.
  • Experience in continuous improvement activities.
  • Experience utilizing and deploying Lean, Six Sigma and/or DFSS methodologies and tools.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma or DFSS (Black Belt level).
  • Curious, logical and analytical: you know how to ask the right questions and get meaningful data.
  • Excellent communication skills and tell stories that will help your teams execute.
  • Operate in a highly matrixed, globally distributed organization & manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
