What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is seeking an Engineer with proven Business, Technical and Project Management skills. You role will be responsible for managing large and complex programs from end to end with an emphasis on cost, quality, optimization, rationalization and engineering.

You will be responsible for analyzing construction services used in the build of the Network to align with stakeholders, evaluate spend base, size opportunities and develop intelligence for the directional negotiations and strategy. The successful candidate will have strong business acumen and the ability to work within strict timelines while demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking. You will work collaboratively and to diplomatically challenge the status quo to achieve the business targets. In addition, you will leverage your deep understanding of the business and customer needs in order to manage a balance between strategic and tactical activities.

This position has visibility to mid and high level executives.

Lead the intelligence and cross functional councils to strategically position the sourcing and Network teams to deliver the best value services to build the network with a focus in the following areas:

  • Conduct engineering, financial and cost analysis to develop Should-Cost models.
  • Internal and external benchmarking of construction services and best practices.
  • Cost rationalization of engineering requirements.
  • Be responsible for internal and external competitiveness intelligence negotiation.
  • Value analysis of the services including options to optimize.
  • Manage prioritization of clean sheeting for Maintenance and Services.
  • Ownership for developing a detailed cross-functional Category Strategy between Network and Sourcing.
  • Conduct financial and quality analysis in order to identify the benefits for the proposed negotiation strategy.
  • Recommend and drive the implementation of program changes and quality improvement.
  • Design of various processes for existing and new programs.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion - 25% or less of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Technical acumen with a clear understanding of the Fiber build methods and procedures.
  • Proven problem solving and demonstrated leadership ability to drive change.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve strategic initiatives and work independently through complex assignments.
  • Proficiency working with large amounts of data to synthesize a picture.
  • Expert skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiating and facilitation skills.
  • Highly developed critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple complex assignments and projects, and successfully driving them to completion within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to be a self-starter; proven success working in a highly dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment in order to achieve team goals.
  • High enthusiasm towards learning about new products, solutions and technology trends.
  • Strong understanding of the vendor landscape, costs associated building the fiber network and different contract structures used in the industry
  • Demonstrated competency in communication and presentation skills; able to interact effectively with internal and external audiences at all levels.
