What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is hiring a passionate and strategic Category Sourcing Manager to join a team that powers our Network Category Intelligence.

You will be part of a team that helps shape Verizon’s award winning network strategy. This includes leading a cross-functional team to form the strategic category plan and develop a comprehensive set of analysis including but not limited to market dynamics, demand, and price. This is a job for an intelligent, decisive, quick, and forward-thinking leader.

In this role, you will lead the intelligence and cross-functional councils for a Network Category focused on the transport network hardware and architecture to strategically position the sourcing and Network teams to deliver the best value to build the network, in addition to acting as a coach on the category intelligence process Responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Leading a cross-functional team to develop a detailed Category Strategy between N&T and Sourcing for the transport category with a spend greater than $500M.
  • Establishing strong relationships with internal business stakeholders.
  • Interfacing with mid-level and high-level executives.
  • Conducting financial and Total Cost of Ownership modeling.
  • Conducting competitor and industry analysis of products to benchmark and improve the company’s competitive position.
  • Working in collaboration with Network Planning to develop cost rationalization and value analysis of engineering product requirements to lower the cost of products.
  • Managing the prioritization of clean sheeting with our Teardown Lab.
  • The construction and accomplishment of the Fact pack for negotiation (including competitive intelligence).
  • Developing negotiation options through a cross-functional and data-driven approach.
  • Preparing and delivering executive-level presentations to obtain alignment across the business and to clearly articulate the category strategy.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with transport network hardware from Cisco, Ciena, or Fujitsu.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in the development of multi-year strategies.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • A degree.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated competency in communication and presentation skills; the ability to interact effectively with internal and external audiences at all levels.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in business case development, cost modeling, and other financial decision approaches.
  • Investigative mindset with an attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Sourcing and procurement experience with network equipment.
  • TCO Modeling experience with Network equipment.
  • Experience with Tableau, Qlik, or other analytics tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to translate complex messages into commonly understood terms.
  • Drive for results and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Prior manufacturing experience.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • PMP certification.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
