What you’ll be doing...

Responsibility for near-real time, and long term performance involved with SAPs in the Southeast Market. Providing support to a varied user community; updating daily logs with site specific information, and composing clear & concise reports for system documentation. Ensuring network integrity and operation in support of our wireless customers. Maintain our industry leading performance metrics, and maximize shareholder value through data analysis and MTTR improvements.

These networks include 3G/4G/5G network specific elements, routers, multilayer switches and transport backhaul. End to end understanding up and down the OSI stack to support SDN and NFV applications that enable a multitude of user experiences.

Specific tasks and expectations this position will perform (but is not limited to):

  • Perform routine health checks across all SAPs in the SEM.
  • Validate performance prior to, during, and post maintenance window activity.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues in near-real time leading the effort to restore service.
  • Document and manage all issues identified.
  • Drive efficiencies and process improvement.
  • Reduce major customer impacting issues
  • Identify longer term trends using historical reporting/anomaly detection/machine learning.
  • Maintain long term historical reporting.
  • Develop new and innovative methods of anomaly detection/machine learning.
  • Identify traffic pattern changes of EPC network elements at National level.
  • Optimize and improve end to end call flows, routing, and overall customer experience.
  • POC for packet traces including ad hoc packet capture standards and documentation/training.
  • Standardize and maintain Irisview alarms/reports/dashboards.
  • Adjust Irisview alarm thresholds to be actionable/relevant.
  • Review feedback and request new features and improvements to Airwave for Data Performance.
  • Maintain SevOne reporting/status maps (new additions, deletions, modifications, etc).
  • Audit network elements for proper syslog configuration.
  • Work with vendors to provide syslog capability.
  • Create standards and provide training.
  • Create/email actionable reports of circuits with pbit 5 frame loss as necessary.
  • Provide executive level comparative views per market/sub-market/MSC (stacked rank).
  • Evaluate performance and KPI impacts of FOA days following the implementation (pre/post analysis).
  • Create standard performance monitoring guidelines for major network changes.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years of Networking/Data Center experience.
  • Knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, BFD, SIP and other LAN/WAN protocols.
  • Training in three or more of the following areas: SDN/NFV, data networking, communications, wireless technologies, digital communications, operating systems, applications, telecommunications.
  • Knowledge of Transport facilities such as 1G, 10G, 100G; native Ethernet, SONET.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Willingness to work on rotational calls as necessary.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Network/Engineering/Technology or related discipline.
  • Certifications such as Red Hat, Openstack, CCENT, CCNA or CCNP.
  • Experience as a Unix Systems Administrator, Linux, Openstack, Containers, SDN / NFV.
  • Experience with some or all of the following tools: Irisview, Sevone, Atlassian/NCT, Syslog, Wireshark, IPcontrol, Ixia, nG1/Netscout.
  • Knowledge of Ansible or Python scripting a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork to drive issues to resolution in outages, and for performance improvements.
  • Ability to perform work with minimum supervision, self-directed work flow; participate in cross-functional projects.
