What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Wireless is looking for a Staff Counsel to support the Global Network & Technology Legal organization on a wide range of issues. The Staff Counsel will handle substantial responsibilities under the supervision of Associate General Counsel, Network. The position is responsible for legal research and factual and business analysis vital to the success of important projects in support of the Wireless Engineering and Global Network Operations teams.

  • Perform review and analysis of common telecommunications siting agreements, including site lease agreements, license agreements, collocation agreements, ground leases, conditions of approval, and right of entry agreements.
  • Develop expertise in relevant federal, state and local laws to assist the business in meeting its objectives, and identify opportunities to advocate for changes in laws where appropriate.
  • Provide legal support to the New England wireline operations organization.
  • Perform research and analysis of wireline-related disputes, including service outage issues and property damage claims.
  • Work with state and government affairs to review and provide analysis of proposed legislation impacting the business.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate closely with multiple internal stakeholders to ensure concerted activity to support strategy.
  • Continuous process improvement to streamline internal and external processes and increase effectiveness.
  • Provide assistance to the Network team to identify and resolve legal issues and minimize risk to the business.
  • Manage strategic projects and any other tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support Network’s efforts to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Resolve escalations and disputes involving network operations and wireless siting.
  • Manage litigation matters such as zoning challenges and trespass, and work with Risk Management to research and resolve insured litigation matters.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Experience in a similar work environment (e.g. law firm or corporate legal department) or industry/field (i.e. wireless, telecommunications, and/or technology business).
  • Willingness to travel.

  • Ability to deal with all levels of personnel to assess and analyze situations and determine appropriate action.
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with document management tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional work ethic: Use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), G Suite and/or Internet-based research.
  • Highly developed analytical reasoning, attention to detail and applied learning skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to make independent decisions and the judgment to know when to seek guidance.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and process high volumes of work in a timely and accurate manner. Thrives in an environment of rapid change and easily handles shifting priorities and deadlines.
