What you’ll be doing...

Our network system assurance team keeps our highly reliable network operating at optimum levels for our customers. You’ll be operating, administering, maintaining, and evolving our highly complex core network to support our customers’ increasing data needs. You’ll play a key role in evolving our network through virtualization and software defined networks to support our goal of reducing capital and operational expenses.

  • Provide the initial support for data performance issues that may arise by utilizing alerts and tools and coordination of internal and external teams to triage if potential customer issues are found.
  • Take ownership of any issue found related to network tools that are found in need of resolution.
  • Develop scripts and automation tasks as well as use directional tools to increase team efficiency.
  • Implement, document, monitor, and optimize the elements and configurations necessary to provide wireless data network services for the Data distribution locations in the SC sub region.
  • Work with our national and regional engineering teams to ensure coordination of all requirements associated with wireless data network services.
  • Provide a disciplined Project Management approach to network modifications and growth, taking accountability for installation oversight, project scheduling, pre/post network testing, network directives and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Proactively monitor and report on resource utilization and equipment status to assure optimum network availability and reliability as demanded by company performance standards.
  • Utilize documented information such as IP addresses, port assignments and connection information for routing and switching equipment across multiple inventory systems.
  • Review MOPs and network change controls to ensure modifications to configurations are compliant to our network security, reliability, and control standards.
  • Provide assistance to national network operations, system performance, and data services engineers/maintenance in the resolution of technical and customer problems.
  • Manage outage bridges and engage vendors and other internal teams for outage support.
  • Prepare detailed shift and outage reports for management review.
  • Develop methods to improve the analysis, alarming, and monitoring of the data network elements.
  • Provide technical support to network assurance teams for troubleshooting network issues and training on new technologies.
  • Participate in new technology and product trials; ensure timely product rollout and testing.
  • Identify Key Performance Indicators and propose enhancements.
  • Manage vendors to ensure timely delivery of new equipment, features and product upgrades.
  • Work independently and make sound technical judgements in a fast paced environment.
  • Provide supplemental building and hardware support to the system assurance teams when needed.
  • Serve as part of an on-call rotation based on location assigned.
  • Be able to work overnight shifts for maintenance window work when required.

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and on-call as necessary.
  • Experience with power and environmental control systems supporting an MSC, NEC, or data center environment.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Three or more years of Information Systems experience and/or CCNA, JUNOS or Redhat certification.
  • Two or more years of experience in Wireless Networking Architecture or LTE Network Architecture.
  • Experience in data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, BGP, and other LAN/WAN protocols.
  • Experience in Network Function Virtualization and Software Defined Networking.
  • Experience managing/configuring Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Affirmed Networks, Extreme Networks or other OEM physical and virtual devices.
  • Experience with Cloud computing.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Experience supporting commercial, 24x7, and Internet-facing systems.
  • Understanding of the UNIX operating system and Redhat Linux.
  • Experience developing support tools using scripts and utilities.
  • Familiarity with system management and monitoring software.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the data network including use of diagnostic tools like Wireshark or Irisview.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and capability of working independently.
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to team with others to achieve goals.
  • Capability to communicate clearly and effectively via written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to use collaborative tools such as NCT and Google docs.
  • Experience using MS Office tools such as Excel and Visio.
  • Willingness to travel.
