What you’ll be doing...

Seeking a Solaris Systems Engineer for Oracle Solaris operating systems. The engineer will design advanced systems by researching and evaluating complex business systems to develop detailed understanding of user needs. This individual will also troubleshoot complex system problems, perform analysis, resolve problems, and proactively prevent issues from occurring. In addition, the individual will lead small to medium projects and perform project management activities such as planning, sizing, configuration, and scheduling.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform technical evaluations of products.
  • Develop solutions and make decisions that impact overall systems and projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to resolve system operational problems.
  • Perform technical administration and analysis duties, and produce specific deliverables relating to network and hardware / software operations management.
  • Evaluate and develop reliable and efficient automated solutions to fulfill complex business requirements.
  • Proactively monitor and control all production systems and networks to maximize systems availability. Analyze and ensure the resolution of technical and client problems / trouble tickets within established timelines while providing quality customer service.
  • Design, implement, analyze, and modify systems for various applications.
  • Work with users to define system requirements and create resolution.
  • Regularly lead small to medium size projects and provide guidance to staff members.
  • Work as a team member on large, highly complex technical/programming projects under minimal direction of senior staff and management.
  • Develop solutions and makes decisions that impact projects and staff members.
  • Performs analysis, write program specifications, and develop designs for medium to large size projects Evaluate options for meeting user needs, and ensure that system requirements are identified, prioritized and incorporated in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Troubleshoot complex development and production application problems and provides technical and production support on an on-call basis.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Five years relevant experience with Oracle mid-range and high-end hardware platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of methodology, tools, standards and procedures.
  • Subject matter expertise with Solaris systems and strong business knowledge.
  • Excellent technical/analytical skills (e.g., systems design) and/or strong programming and design skills.
  • Working knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Knowledge of information systems concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership abilities.
