What you’ll be doing...

(Software-Defined Networking)Planning group under Verizon Network Technology and Planning organization is looking for self-motivated and innovative engineer in support of Verizon SDN Planning Team. As a senior-level member of technical staff, you will be interacting with software engineers, network/system operations staff, network/system architects, ME labs, Network Device Planning and vendor partners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with ME labs to ensure their test beds are set up correctly and resources are available to run BNC NC test requirements and develop schedule for existing labs.
  • Coordinate with Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) Device Planning (MSE, UT, Core, NGPON2) of when test requirements are developed and sent to ME labs for testing southbound traffic.
  • Work with the SDN Architecture and Development team and understand new technology/design, changes to existing technology/design and what is required of ME labs to verify them.
  • Act as tier 4 support for the ME labs and resolve any bugs/issues encounter during BNC NC testing working with vendors and the SDN architecture team.
  • Software Defined Networking (SDN) ecosystem technical vendor management.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in the following technologies and protocols: NETCONF, RESTCONF, gNMI, gRPC, YANG (MEF, OpenConfig and IETF models), JSON, XML, and Kafka.
  • Knowledge of wireline and wireless network management, control, provisioning, and service assurance.
  • Experience in defining workflow from initial device turn-up and infrastructure configuration to service creation and monitoring.
  • Experience with L2/L3 switching, signaling protocols, routing protocols and technologies (e.g., IP, MPLS, BGP, Ethernet, spine/leaf architectures, etc.).

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with modern data communication technology discipline.
  • Industry technology leadership skill.
  • Multi-vendor system integration and technical vendor management experience.
  • Network (WAN/LAN) Engineering (Layer 2 and above) experience in Service Provider Network or Enterprise Network environment.
  • SDN knowledge and development experience.
  • Open Daylight knowledge and Java development experience.
  • Experience configuring NetConf connected devices via ODL Restconf APIs and related tools.
  • Experience in orchestration platform (e.g., ONAP) integration.
  • Knowledge of Packet, Optical, and Wireless network technologies.
  • Open networking, open API, and open platform development experience.
  • Knowledge of deploying virtualized application in Linux environments - KVM, docker container, Kubernetes, OpenStack, VMWare, etc.
  • Experience with Ansible for configuring equipment in a lab environment
  • Willingness to travel.
