What you’ll be doing...

The Business Excellence team is a newly created team focused on specific projects to eliminate wasteful spending throughout the enterprise and to maximize our resources. The Business Excellence team works side by side with Senior Executives to accomplish these goals!

In this role you will be responsible for quantifying cost elimination opportunities across the corporation in order to achieve multibillion dollar savings for this major initiative. The individual will work with the operational teams in establishing financial goals and Senior Executives across the corporation on developing the metrics for success. The individual will provide service, challenge assumptions and ensure spend and initiatives are aligned to strategic goals and work closely with the team to ensure the program status is tracked, monitored and reported in accordance with the program plan.

The Manager will be responsible for quantifying baselines, challenging business case assumptions, assessing financial risk, removing obstacles for each of the waste elimination opportunities. The individual will work with senior executives and operational teams across Verizon in establishing financial goals and on developing the financial and operational metrics for measuring success. The individual will work closely with each package team to ensure the success of the programs by monitoring and reporting in accordance with the program plan.

The responsibilities of this strategic position include driving programs around efficiencies in vendor spend and you will support the Zero Based Budgeting process across the Verizon enterprise in working with senior leaders and operational teams for alignment with ongoing purchasing processes projects and benefits. The Manager will work closely with the broader Business Excellence team on approach and align to the overall corporate planning process.

  • Driving continual improvement across all lines of business and related financial support teams; Sourcing, Accounts Payable, Supply Chain and Financial Planning and Analysis teams is key to the successful outcomes.
  • On a monthly basis, performs financial results variance analyses by package and lines by understanding business trends, waste elimination initiatives results and timing and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify areas of risk and opportunities and provide recommendations.
  • On an annual basis during the planning process, provide insights for the package(s) spend as the initial target setting is developed.
  • Prepare and communicate plan build timing and requirements to the package team and work with the appropriate Financial Planning and Analysis budget inputters to ensure clear understanding of package definitions for bottoms up budget build of Price Times Quality details.
  • Partner with the business to understand costing/profitability models to substantiate and prioritize spend and recommend if spend favorability can be reallocated for other business needs.
  • Communicate and collaborate to ensure successful program execution.
  • Collaborative and influential communication skills to drive agreement/commitment and ensure complete buy-in from Senior Leadership.
  • Understand financial and accounting concepts.
  • Ability to apply business acumen across multiple business units and functions.
  • Drive linkage to value/strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and track operational KPIs to ensure the health of the business as reduction initiatives are implemented.
  • Develop process mappings to identify inefficiencies and build sustainable reductions in vendor spend.
  • Provide executive reporting and presentation materials that reflects package financial results and initiatives performance.
  • Financial analyses including timing of benefits realization, return on investment and payback period.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Project management experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline.
  • Experience with Essbase, Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in the technology and/or telecommunications industry.
  • A professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA).
  • Analytical capability with the demonstrated ability to structure business case around a high-level strategic vision.
  • Strong strategic skills, with the proven ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations.
  • An advanced knowledge of corporate financial planning, reporting & analysis, and costing/profitability methodologies and processes.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of common business and cost drivers, financial statement analysis, and deep-dive analysis.
  • Knowledge Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Experience in Smart View, Hyperion Planning, and Hyperion Strategic Finance.
  • Experience leading large and complex team projects with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of zero based budgeting (ZBB).
  • Willingness to travel
