What you’ll be doing...

This position is a Construction Engineer project management job. This position is highly demanding, fast-paced, and requires exceptional time management and communications skills. Majority of the work is in an office environment; some of the work requires travel and outside work. Most outside work is at outdoor cell sites and hub locations throughout Florida. As the Small Cell Construction Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Providing project management and supervision of construction activities for multiple Network site additions and upgrade projects including: New Build sites; Relocation sites; AWS adds; LTE over PCS; LTE over 850 MHZ; RRH installs; RET installs; hybrid cable installs; antenna modifications; LAA/CBRS adds; 5G adds; CDMA adds; sectorization; generator upgrades; generator adds; power upgrades; various equipment swaps at cell sites; and other projects.
  • Providing complete ownership of project financials, from initial proposal/bid through receipt of final product or service including project budget funding, adherence to budget spending, creation & tracking of purchase orders, and inspecting work performed by contractors.
  • Providing accurate, timely, and concise communications; express and explain issues clearly; update project trackers daily; e-mail and call project members frequently.
  • Providing clear direction and supervision to contractors, vendors, and/or other teams supporting upgrade projects.
  • Managing RFQ/RFP and contract processes via bid tools, awarding project, monitoring progress, providing regular status updates, and resolving issues.
  • Providing guidance for site surveys to ensure cell site upgrade projects account for civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical feasibility.
  • Reviewing site survey reports with a focus on measurements, power readings, HVAC assessments, photos, drawings, issues, and recommendations for upgrade projects.
  • Reviewing punch walk/acceptance check lists to ensure construction issues are identified and corrected.
  • Verifying testing parameters to include voltage, sweeps, PIM, and other tests supporting cell upgrade projects.
  • Evaluating new products, services, and vendors. Weigh the pros and cons, including impact to the system, costs, compatibility, and ease of use, and reliability.
  • Interfacing with internal and external departments to include Real Estate, Regulatory, and municipal agencies in the pursuit of construction and in-service approvals, building permits, and construction inspections.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in wireless telecom industry.
  • A Valid Driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Five or more years of experience in the wireless telecom industry (or military equivalent) with a focus on cell site project management disciplines.
  • Ability to be a self-managed and a self-starter with a proven ability to thrive while under intense circumstances to deliver projects on time, with zero defects, and within budget.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, competing priorities, and situations in which guidelines can change.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and technologies quickly; retain information; and eager to do research and finding info and answers.
  • Willingness to adapt to different settings and investigate/implement alternate approaches to resolve difficult problems with minimum management input.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends; answer phone calls when crews are on site supporting your projects; respond to e-mails promptly; and actively lead and participate in project/team meetings.
  • Knowledge of Ericsson LTE/AWS base stations; Ericsson Remote Radio Units; JMA and Commscope Remote Electrical Tilt Antennas, hybrid cables, and CPRI mux/patch panels.
  • Knowledge of CWDM/DWDM multiplexing to maximize fiber resources.
  • Knowledge of CRAN & ERAN architecture and coordination mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of L2 Ethernet switching protocols and fundamental network design/operation.
  • Knowledge of project management, budgeting process, Sarbanes-Oxley, and inventory controls.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, National Electrical Code requirements, environmental requirements including hazardous material, spill prevention, and other regulatory guidelines, general building maintenance, and vendor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of site power plants to include: DC power systems, AC UPS systems, emergency generators, and corresponding distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of cell site design/engineering, construction, real estate, regulatory, and operations.
  • Experience in computer applications: Google Gmail, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
