What you’ll be doing...

Our network engineering team keeps us ahead of the competition. As a Senior RF Engineer, you’ll be redesigning mature network areas to minimize capacity constraints and improve SINR while working with other areas of network to ensure performance fixes and initiatives are in place. You’ll play a key role in making sure our customers continue to enjoy the crystal-clear connections and top-notch call performance that we’re known for.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of 5G NR mmWave RF design.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to lead from the front and mentoring junior RF Engineers.
  • Managing search area issuance, candidate assessment, and approvals.
  • Partnering with System Performance to improve various network KPIs.
  • Using internal tools to process regulatory compliance.
  • Working on new cell sites, making sure the site is properly integrated into the network and optimized for peak performance.
  • Performing Macro/Small Cell design/In Building design, including antenna selection and placement.
  • Using knowledge of 5G NR, LTE, GSM, CDMA 1x, EVDO and microwave to contribute to network design.
  • Prepares necessary zoning/regulatory filings for sites ensuring that compliance is met, and attends zoning meetings for assigned area as required.
  • Works closely with real estate team to increase efficiency, minimize cost, and streamline processes related to site acquisition, leasing, and zoning submissions.
  • Review real estate applications for accuracy prior to lease execution.
  • Conduct RFE analysis, generate required reports and documents, and ensure 100% compliance to RFE mitigation standards within the allotted time frame.
  • Ensure 100% regulatory requirements are met in every phase of design project.
  • Evaluate site compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Perform intermodulation analyses of antenna systems and components.
  • As needed, calculate link budgets to evaluate system performance and reliability based on received signal level and fade margin.
  • Calculate the efficiency of various multiple-antenna schemes, and analyze the tradeoffs involved in selecting from among them.
  • Evaluate the effects of path loss on the received signal strength in various signal propagation environments (examples might include flat terrain, rolling hills, urbanized areas, and indoor environments [such as buildings or tunnels] with losses caused by walls, ceilings, etc.).
  • Determine parameters related to antennas (examples might include pattern, beam width, gain, distance from an antenna or array at which far field conditions apply, spacing, beam forming, tilt, and sectorization) and analyze the effects of these parameters on coverage and capacity.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in RF design and optimization.
  • 4G/5G network design and implementation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of RF theory and practice, as well as LTE/VoLTE technology.
  • Experience in design & optimization of LTE/VoLTE networks.
  • Knowledge of propagation modeling software such as Planet EV or Atoll.
  • Knowledge of LTE network KPIs and key parameters.
  • Knowledge and use of topographical maps and digital terrain databases.
  • Experience with Model Tuning.
  • Knowledge of SQL scripting or VB Scripting.
  • Knowledge of Excel, including VB macro creation and worksheet manipulation.
  • Proactive, self-starter and ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision and initial guidance.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Communication skills- written and verbal.
  • Organizational and project planning skills.
  • Planning factors for data and VoLTE.
  • Frequency planning / de-confliction.
  • Antenna system design and use including antenna types (examples might include Hex/Octo port panel, cross-pol array, etc.), antenna patterns, gain and EIRP, ERP, antenna size, antenna polarization, receive and transmit diversity, MIMO antenna systems, and proper antenna installation to provide for coverage and interference mitigation.
  • Macro site design considerations in urban, sub-urban, and rural environments.
  • Small cell design considerations in urban and sub-urban environments.
