What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a Python developer who will be responsible for writing and testing code, debugging, and integrating applications with existing platforms to propel Network Operations efficiency and efficacy. API driven applications are changing the way that we do operations, and you will design, build, test, and deploy services and APIs that will be integral to the operations toolkit.

Responsibilities:

Network programmability

  • Through guidance from Sr. Developers and working in tandem with Network Engineers, develop automation tools leveraging Python, REST APIs, Netconf/YANG, and vendor-provided interfaces to add efficiency to Network Ops for iEN. The Network Support projects will be focused on simplifying Network Operations through the development of platforms that provide a unified view of the iEN.

Maintain development and production environments

  • Ensure availability and health of the environments used to develop solutions- git, Openstack, dev & production VMs. All solutions developed by the Network Support team are hosted in VCP (Verizon Cloud Platform), and the developer will share the responsibility of maintaining the tenant space- this includes development of Heat templates, VM lifecycle management, and ensuring CPI-810 compliance \ overall security.
  • Take ownership and responsibility of ensuring uptime and health of the Network Support applications \ utilities.
  • Focus on common operational tasks like configuration retrieval and comparison, checking device and network health, change management, element upgrades, and closed-loop service assurance.

Collaborate with project teams

  • Meet with internal and external project teams to understand current status of projects. Be cognizant of overall direction and priorities for Network Support of iEN.
  • It will be important to establish relationships with the Network Management Centers, Maintenance Engineering, Engineering, Planning, IT, and the Project Management teams to understand priorities and drivers for automation.
  • Regularly participate in scrums with the other developer in the teams and dev leads to report on progress and hurdles.
  • A successful candidate must embrace agile methodologies and demonstrate an aptitude to adapt.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Python Developer.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience of design principles needed for scaling applications.
  • Knowledge of event-driven programming in Python.
  • Ability to create database schemas that represent and support business processes.
  • Knowledge of the threading limitations in Python and multi-process architecture.
  • Experience in at one or more Python framework - Django, Flask, Pyramid.
  • Knowledge of object-relational mapping (ORM)
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies (JS, HTML5)
  • Knowledge of templating languages (Jinja2, Mako, etc.)
  • Experience with code versioning tools (Git)
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
