What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a team-leading software developer to join our R&D team in Toronto.

The team in Toronto is responsible for the development and maintenance of our industry-leading commercial navigation products. They have a customer base that includes some of the biggest fleets in long-haul trucking in North America, plus a growing set of service and delivery fleets worldwide. With many thousands of drivers relying on our products, this is an opportunity to help shape the efficiency and safety of many of the vehicles that power the economy. We look to build high-performing cross-functional teams that use lean development practices to deliver value rapidly to customers. In this demanding role your responsibilities will be:

  • Providing technical and process leadership to continually improve our work.
  • Organizing available resources in order to meet product goals and release deadlines.
  • Assisting and guiding the development team with software architecture decisions.
  • Implementing new features, improvements, or bug fixes on the existing code base
  • Triaging problem reports as they arise.
  • Working closely with quality assurance on software testing and best processes.
  • Writing automated test cases and produce internal documentation.
  • Collaborating with other VZC R&D and product teams worldwide, as required.
  • Keeping up to date with current industry trends and technologies
  • Adhering to VZ policies, processes, and best practices.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with C# / .NET development using Xamarin.
  • Two or more years as a development lead.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Expert level knowledge of C# software development.
  • An understanding of the Kanban agile software development methodology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively in a team- based environment.
  • Experience with cross-platform mobile software development.
  • An understanding of best practices in unit testing, loose coupling, SOLID principles, and defensive programming.
  • The ability to take ownership and accountability for problems and their resolutions.
