The Verizon wireline Core Equipment Engineering - Global Transport Engineering organization provides detailed network solutions leveraging Verizon’s state of the art global transport network consisting of Ultra-Long Haul (ULH), SONET, OTN Mesh, and Metro Access. In this role, you will be leading a team of ten or more network engineers augmenting the Local Metro, Intelligent Edge, and Metro Core Network components of this global network. You will be a part of a very high paced and customer focused work environment.

This position is for the Senior Manager of Local Metro Engineering and you will be responsible to develop, lead & direct a diverse team of engineers who perform the following functions.

  • Collaborating with upstream planning and downstream provisioning organizations.
  • Partnering with field operations, center engineers and field engineers for data collection and research activities.
  • Identifying and resolving space, power & fiber requirements.
  • Working with standards and equipment vendors to implement custom customer specific designs.
  • Ordering all electronics & ancillary materials to support the project and drive Supply Chain for shipment.
  • Creating engineering design installation and test packages while ensuring the highest level of quality.
  • Identifying process gaps and develop solutions to address deficiencies.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Willingness to be on-call after hours and on weekends.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Knowledge of Tellabs 7100, Fuji 4100, Fuji 4500, passive DWDM, SONET OC-48/OC-192 and other new and legacy ROADM technologies.
  • Knowledge of both Outside Plant and Inside Plant facilities.
  • Six or more years of direct supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Experience in Network Engineering
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, resolve conflicts and provide solutions to improve team effectiveness to exceed corporate objectives.
  • Ability to multitask, partner across corporate organizations, and proactively address issues in a fast paced, high volume environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication skills with a proven track record of communicating at all levels. Experience presenting to and interacting with executives.
  • Worked with multifunctional teams.
  • Managed complex processes.
