What you’ll be doing...
As a junior developer, you will be working with a team to code, deploy, and maintain tools and services that are central to measuring the performance of Verizon's leading wireless network. You will apply cloud, SaaS, and micro-service practices to automate continuous delivery build, test, deployment, and maintenance stages of your code. You will manage the prioritization of feature enhancements and fixes in accordance with agile principles (scrum/Kanban, DevOps, CI/CD). Weekly calls with network engineers will be required to understand wireless 3GPP technologies and specifications.
Examples include developing microservices & integrations needed to:
- Assembling large, complex data sets that meet functional business requirements.
- Front end web development to offer Network performance metrics to network engineers.
- Integration with upstream and downstream data pipelines and their associated processes.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Gather datasets from both public and private source
- Evolve application logic to follow 3GPP networking standards for 4G and 5G wireless networks.
- Employee predictive analytics on network data including netflow, deep packet inspection, packet tracing, syslog, and other sources.
- Learn/Share/Teach modern practices with Verizon’s developer community.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or one or more years of work experience.
- One or more years of relevant work experience.
- Apprenticeship under Project Athena.
- AWS and other industry certifications.
Even better if you have:
- A degree.
- Application development experience and proficiency with the following programming, scripting languages (in order of preference): Node.JS, React or Angular (2+), Python, Scala, Go, Ruby, C/C++, YAML, Perl, bash.
- Experience with development using source code repositories – Github, GitLab, and/or Bitbucket.
- Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as: Chef, Puppet, and Ansible.
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service platforms: AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift; Google Compute Engine, Azure, Soft Layer, OpenStack, etc.
- Experience deploying microservices onto container platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS, CloudFoundry, serverless (AWS Lambda, GCP), and virtual server instance-based solutions on AWS IaaS.
- Strong API-first mindset. Experience developing APIs, and experience with API Management platforms (ideally Apigee).
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, Postgres and Cassandra.
- Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
- Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
- Experience with cloud-native monitoring and logging solutions.
- Experience deploying on Linux platforms in web-scale deployments.
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with public speaking, presenting technical information across numerous delivery vehicles – remote, video, phone, in-person; to a diverse group of experienced technologists.
- Experience with network troubleshooting.
- Experience with cloud-native open source tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Jaeger, Kiali, ChaosKube or Cortex
