What you’ll be doing...

Network Planning and Technology group is seeking an energetic and experienced Network Design Planner to play a critical role that interprets and translates client network requirements into viable, scalable Core Network solutions that provide customers highly available network services. Helps coordinate efforts across the product, engineering, network operations and services teams to provide solution details, cost estimates, and associated materials that help the current services and applications connect into the core network architecture.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders from a strategic perspective to identify and exploit emerging technologies in the private and public network solutions space to improve business processes, promote the strategic use of highly scalable architectures, and enable the end users to use automation tools, scale and development of meaningful architectures that help deliver customer data. You will be highly versatile and equally capable in front of an architecture review board or the executive leaders. You should have demonstrable experience leading agile, strategic projects that leverage the application of cutting edge network technology, and distributed implementation partners.

You will work closely with clients and IT team members to understand the stakeholder requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with digital services and IT strategies and are be compliance with the Verizon's architectural standards.

  • Building highly scalable, diverse and high performance architecture to help support Verizon Wireline and Wireless network services.
  • Developing multi-year large scale deployment plans for emerging technologies that evolve network platforms, in a highly scalable manner for migration of high traffic volumes, and will be used to support new product launches that drive revenue and savings for Verizon.
  • Creating and presenting annual detailed Capital budget for executing deployment plans, and work across various teams to obtain budget approval.
  • Partnering with architects and engineers to build strategies for execution, drive and/or facilitate key decisions, and influence others and lead change where appropriate.
  • Participating in Network Review forums for the Network Planning and Technology group.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Engineering degree, preferably EE/CSE.
  • Cisco certification (CCNA, CCNP) and design / architecture experience with IP/MPLS/Ethernet networks.
  • Five or more years of experience planning large projects in Network design and architecture areas.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills as well as advanced networking understanding of IP, BGP and LDP.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing, Network Functions Virtualized (NFV), and Software Defined Networks (SDN).
  • Juniper and Cisco Advanced/Expert Routing and/or Networking certification or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the following protocols/features: IP, MPLS , OSPF, ISIS, BGP, RIP, Multicast, IPv4, IPv6, BFD, QoS, L3/L2 VPNs, LDP, RSVP-TE, OAM, Ethernet and SDN.
  • Willingness to travel.
