What you’ll be doing...

The Director for Category Intelligence is responsible for establishing a vision and direction for the Marketing category across the enterprise. The Director will be responsible for developing and executing a global category sourcing strategy for spend of approximately $8 billion initially and more through increased responsibility. The Director will manage 5-8 direct reports.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the director will enhance organizational performance through effective spend management and will be responsible for leading the category in leveraging this spend to improve productivity, optimize cost and align with business strategies to optimize value and drive towards world class performance. The implementation of the category strategy will be enacted through a network of purchasing professionals in each business segment.This position has visibility to mid and high level executives.

Director will be expected to:

  • Execute Business Relationship Management and contribute to the strategic direction of the organization with mid to high level executives by partnering on business and category strategy
  • Think and act globally to lead and collaborate effectively on a cross-functional/category basis. Be responsible to align the business unit, local, regional and global organization to maximize achievement of category objectives and negotiate effectively with strategic suppliers. Look to unlock competitive advantage for the company
  • Leverage a global perspective to quickly assimilate external information (e.g. market drivers, macroeconomic conditions, etc.) to anticipate its impact across the business and develop associated category sourcing strategy and action plans to maximize the opportunity
  • Develop insights team capable of analyzing data, providing deep category insights and developing supplier negotiation strategies
  • Develop and ensure the effective implementation of a category sourcing strategy to harness economies of scale, drive economic value, and enable business growth
  • Leverage supplier management/total cost principles to lead the global strategic supplier relationships for the company and ensure they produce meaningful value to the organization. Lead strategic negotiations across the enterprise with strategic partners
  • Leverage the best of the outside. Develop and enable the integration of best practices, ensuring the best use of effective sourcing and supply chain tools, techniques and processes
  • Build a diverse, high performing team. Coach, mentor, and develop outstanding sourcing talent across the organization
  • Build and leverage strong relationships and networks both within and outside the organization. Use personal influence skills rather than position power to persuade others and gain support
  • Additional responsibilities to meet business needs as identified

What we’re looking for...

  • 10+ years of marketing, category management, sourcing and/or brand/portfolio strategy development
  • 4+ years of P&L accountability
  • Strong working knowledge of negotiating and contracting
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business or Technical area or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of proven expertise in building and leading effective teams
  • Strong understanding of the supplier landscape, costs associated with Advertising, Marketing, PR, Licensing, Sponsorship, Digital and different contract structures used in the industry
  • Problem solving & demonstrated leadership with the ability to drive change
  • High enthusiasm towards learning about new products, solutions and technology trends
  • Demonstrated competency in communication and presentation skills; able to interact effectively with internal and external audiences at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional/category teams to achieve strategic initiatives and work independently through complex assignments. Able to create collaborative platforms and networks
  • Proficiency working with large amounts of data to synthesize a picture
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiating and facilitation skills
  • Highly developed critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple complex assignments and projects, and successfully driving them to completion within the required timeframe
  • Self-starter; proven success working in a highly dynamic, deadline-driven environment
