What you’ll be doing...

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement new capabilities for the Skyward Platform. These new capabilities and technologies leverage Verizon connectivity, and will enable drones to be more productive by integrating into the national airspace system. You will participate in a collaborative Agile development environment, and build features that not only meet customer requirements, but also help Skyward shape and encourage best practice in an incredibly innovative industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designing the features necessary to enable cellular connected drones
  • Developing C++ applications, modules, libraries, and services to provide these features with opportunities to flex into Java development environments as well
  • Participate in agile software development practices such as standups, estimating, prioritization, and retrospectives
  • Work with back end, front end, network, and mobile engineers to understand architectural and design requirements, and to develop scalable, reusable, multi-platform systems and functionality.
  • Provide mentorship and egoless guidance that empowers team members and promotes a strong agile culture
  • Improve customer and developer experiences by identifying areas of complexity, and implementing architectural improvements that increase performance and lower risk
  • Create maintainable, well documented code and tests; participate in code reviews; troubleshoot issues; optimize system performance
  • Keep abreast of the latest technology trends & best practices, and understand when might be the appropriate time to adopt them

Willingness to accept new challenges, assist in troubleshooting issues, and possess the ability to jump into areas that go beyond the code such as continuous integration, development processes, test / QA, and Agile process improvements.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with test-driven development, different software development processes, object-oriented design (OOD), software debugging.
  • Experience utilizing and developing web / cloud technologies such as RESTful web services, JSON, authentication services, etc.
  • Experience working in a continuous integration (CI) type environment.

Even Better if You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Experience working in a startup environment.
  • Six or more years of full-time professional C/C++ development experience
  • Experience working in a service oriented architecture (SOA) environment
  • Experience flying drones for business or pleasure (Part 107 certification)
  • Experience developing on Amazon Web Services and/or Google Cloud, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining, provisioning, and improving continuous integration environments.
  • Experience in improving agile, development, continuous integration, and other software life cycle processes.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative agile software development environment
  • Good aptitude and desire to learn new skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to embrace change and work in a fast paced, iterative environment
  • Ability to develop a nowledge of the commercial UAS marketplace and customers’ needs.
