What you’ll be doing...

Global Network & Technology (GN&T) Security Planning is seeking a Security Controls Assessment, Testing & Operations Architect to support architecture and roadmap development for Verizon’s key systems such as its 4G/5G networks, intelligent Edge Network (iEN), IoT networks and devices, and big data/cloud.You will use your domain-specific knowledge to ensure Verizon has managed all significant security risks, eliminated redundant security capabilities, and planned for the software development security capabilities we will need in the future.


  • Define objectives, technical work, and timeline for developing security architectures, roadmaps, and requirements.
  • Review effectiveness of security requirements on an ongoing basis to determine whether the risk remains acceptable.
  • Research techniques, trends, countermeasures and tools in network security, data hiding and network vulnerabilities.
  • Assess security requirements to ensure protection of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.
  • Support development of security architectures, roadmaps, and requirements for key Verizon systems.
  • Build relationships with program, engineering, operations, security, and CISO teams to understand how to develop plans that effectively manage Verizon’s security risks.
  • Communicate progress, findings, and ensure successful handoff of deliverables to program and operational teams.
  • Build domain knowledge of Verizon’s environment to understand long-term risk areas that will develop as the systems evolve
  • Provide thought leadership by participating in network and security forums and collaborating with academic and research institutions.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering preferred).
  • Prior experience with CIS, and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) or Cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Familiarity with and practical experience in security assessment, testing, and operations and their functional components.
  • Knowledge of information technology security principles and implementation methods (e.g., PKI, RBAC, firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption, Active Directory / LDAP / LDAPS, SSO, SAML)
  • Knowledge of potential vulnerabilities and threats to existing networks, applications, web, database, and operating system technologies.
  • Strong vulnerability scanner background and experience with conducting Nessus compliance scans.
  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple high priority projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-visibility, complex technical projects.
  • Extremely strong problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with the security domains of security engineering, IAM, network/asset/data security, and software development.
  • Familiarity with key Verizon system areas such as LTE, 5G, routing, switching, optical networks, IoT, big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, etc.
  • Familiarity and practical experience building security architectures, roadmaps, and program requirements.
  • Willingness to travel upto a maximum of 25%
