What you’ll be doing...

This Senior Security Engineer is a Tier III SOC Engineering resource responsible for the management of Verizon’s customer security infrastructure, with a concentration of work on Zscaler. Primary responsibilities include change management and incident management. Change Management responsibilities include the acceptance, review, planning and implementation of approved changes to customer security assets.

  • Work with Design Engineer, Project Engineer and Project Manager on customer transition, implementation, or transformation projects.

  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on proxy, cloud-based firewalls.

  • Create/update/close change request in requisite change system, design change and submit change form, or review submitted change form and correct any deficiencies, stage or implement change and troubleshoot failed changes.

  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex enterprise security device incidents

  • Attend incident calls, review and understanding of documented processes.

  • Perform in-depth research of assigned problems to identify resolution options, document options, select best option, and present information to customer and implement approved resolution.

  • Create and present Root Cause Analysis (RCA) document when requested.

  • Act as escalation point to assist Tier 2 engineers with or perform troubleshooting, configuration, replacement, updating or installation of enterprise security devices.

  • Collaborate with Security Engineering and Project Management to create custom solutions for assigned customers.

  • Articulate outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, resolve tasks within assigned shift, or correctly transition incident to oncoming shift if not resolved, track task to resolution.

  • Work with enterprise security device vendors to resolve complex incidents, replace defective hardware, and receive software patches/fixes to resolve incidents.

  • Assess vendor vulnerability reports against existing customer devices and work with customer to implement mitigation activities if required.

  • Participate in audit and compliance assessments performed internally, by external vendors or by customer audit teams.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Three or more years of experience in network engineering.

  • Experience with cloud-based firewall proxies, like Zscaler or Ironport.

Even better if you have:

  • Four or more years of enterprise security engineering experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Security, or other technical field.

  • Knowledge of the 7 layers of OSI model and able to troubleshoot complex incidents involving the first four layers.

  • Experience in the application of established procedures, policies and best practices in the security field.

  • Experience in Linux, Proxies, firewalls, load balancers, Security Cloud products.

  • Experience with complex troubleshooting.

  • Experience in Change Management process.

  • ITIL Foundations training / certification.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with customers to understand their requirements.

  • Able to identify gaps in processes and strong problem solving skills.

  • Ability to excel in high pressure environments.

  • Security Certifications: CCSE, CCSP, JNCIP, CISSP, CCNP - Security.
