What you’ll be doing...

The Cyber security Data Scientist candidate will perform analytics, data science, risk scoring, and predictive modeling for high-visibility projects especially in areas related to fraud, security, and identity applications. The Cybersecurity Data Scientist candidate will work within a collaborative team focused on innovation in a high performing, solution-oriented culture. The data scientist will leverage large volumes of information and data from multiple sources to build new products and protect networks.

Each of these positions will support projects like:

  • Verizon Risk Report – a leading product in the Security portfolio that brings in $3 of additional product/service revenue for each $1 of VRR sales. (VRR is rebranding to Cyber Risk Monitoring)
  • Data Breach Investigation Report – an industry-respected annual report providing analysis of actual customer breaches, and providing recommended best practices for security and prevention of breaches
  • Social Engineering fraud detection – supporting the VZ fraud operations group in saving more than $350K per month related to device fraud.
  • Robo calling mitigation – reducing and blocking illegal and annoying robo calls to protect our customers and comply with FCC mandates.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs data studies and analytics using new and diverse data sources.
  • Conducts statistical modeling and experiment design.
  • Through data mining, discovers “patterns and knowledge” in the data. Present findings to executives, software developers, business analysts and product managers.
  • Creates and validates predictive models and advanced algorithms.
  • Designs, modifies and builds risk scoring approaches.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A Degree.
  • PhD in Science, Engineering or Mathematics and at least 2 years analytics and data science (Note “data science” here includes data mining and predictive modeling).
  • Experience with Big Data and tools such as Hadoop, Spark, or statistics packages like “R” and TensorFlow.
  • Strong knowledge of programming and pattern recognition.
  • Mastery of statistics, machine learning, algorithms, predictive modeling, and advanced mathematics.
  • SQL (Structured Query Language) and other programming languages (R, C++, Python) for statistical computing, graphics, and data mining.
  • Stronganalysis skills and ability to think and research creatively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to bridge the gap between data science and business domains.
  • Collaboration with business unit, IT, and data scientists across the enterprise to support descriptive and predictive analytics process.
  • Willingness to travel up to a maximum of 25%
