What you’ll be doing...

Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management, is responsible for the administration of Verizon’s Enterprise Risk Management program, overseeing policies, processes, people and systems and partnering with business leaders to identify and mitigate financial, operational, legal and regulatory risks, serving as the Company’s second line of defense for internal controls.

You will not only oversee the day to day compliance functions, but also think and act strategically. This includes a focus on supporting our stakeholders, designing effective controls, and driving process improvements to our compliance initiatives.

You will be responsible for leading a team of 22 professionals, including 4 Senior Managers. This position reports to the Director, Enterprise Risk Management.

  • Leading and managing a diverse team and support team members’ professional and career development.
  • Leading discussions with executive and senior management on key issues, resulting impacts and conclusions.
  • Developing and implementing risk management strategies and making recommendations to management.
  • Providing training/coaching to professional staff on all areas of Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Liaising with partners in business units, other corporate functions and executive management to provide insights into controls issues, identify implications and offer practical solutions.
  • Providing leadership in administering our ERM framework including; review of process documentation, establishment of management test plans, assessment of management test results, and remediation plans.
  • Providing leadership in designing and implementing controls to improve financial performance, transactional accuracy and ensuring compliance.
  • Ensuring adequate coverage of significant risks through delegation of resources for monitoring and review of standard reports, risk model analysis and associated field work.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations communicating risks mitigated to senior management.
  • Providing leadership in developing and completing thorough and accurate risk assessments.
  • Executing on time sensitive issues and bring them to appropriate conclusions.
  • Developing digital tools to ease administrative burden of internal controls.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • A Professional certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE).
  • Experience in operational compliance, business controls or audit.
  • Experience in developing and executing audit/test procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with controls design and evaluation.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • A valid Driver's License.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Information Systems.
  • A Master's degree in Business Administration.
  • Highly analytical; ability to synthesize information and produce clear, concise and organized summaries, visualizations and documentation.
  • Ten or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Seven or more years of leadership experience directly managing teams (people leader).
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, motivates others through empathy and resilience.
  • Experience driving complex problems and analytics to provide automated and efficient solutions.
  • Experience formulating, affecting, interpreting and implementing policies and processes.
  • Experience leveraging risk principles and methods to evaluate policies, processes and systems.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, reporting and analytical tools.
