What you’ll be doing...

Cell sites are pretty important to support our most reliable and fastest network. That’s where you come in. You’ll work with cellular engineering and operations to ensure that the equipment required for cell site projects is available when it’s needed and complete. When a project needs to be completed, you will determine equipment needs and order and integrate a wide range of equipment like antennas, power systems, and fiber optic cable. You’ll work closely with other Network teams such as RF Design, Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Facilities and System Performance to implement new technologies and services and meet project landmarks.This position is an Equipment Engineer job on the Cell Implementation Macro & Small Cellteam, which is highly demanding, fast-paced, stressful, and requires exceptional timemanagement and communications skills. 80% of work is in an office environment and 20% of work requires travel and outside work. Most outside work is at outdoor cell sites throughout FL.

  • Determining the equipment needs for cell sites based on engineering plans and project outlines.
  • Coordinating the ordering and integration process to provide complete equipment sets for projects.
  • Managing supplier relationships to meet targeted network landmarks and turn-up dates.
  • Attending project update meetings to present status updates.
  • Following appropriate methods and procedures for equipment tracking and inventory control.
  • Provides equipment engineering for Network upgrade projects including: New Build sites;
  • Relocation sites; AWS adds; LTE over PCS; LTE over 850 MHZ; RRH installs; LAA/CBRS adds; 5G
  • adds; sectorization; CRAN/ERAN/DRAN; Small Cell; iDAS-oDAS; LS6, power upgrades; and other
  • projects.
  • Developsing engineering data for Ericsson eNB RBS configurations, base band and power module dimensioning, CIQ, RiPort maps, and BOMs (Bill-Of-Materials).
  • Providing accurate, timely, and concise communications; express and explain issues clearly.
  • Updating project trackers daily; email and call project members frequently.
  • Evaluating new products, services, and vendors. Weigh the pros and cons, including impact to the system, costs, compatibility, and ease of use, and reliability.
  • Ensuring tools are updated to support new products and configurations.
  • Supporting project and design standardization; develop and document designs and standards for all build types in the sub-market. Work with Network Assurance to validate new designs so they can be integrated into MOPs for general availability.
  • Work with CONQUEST and BSIM (Base Station Integration Manager) Planning Tools and provide updates for continued development.
  • Work with RF Engineering on a daily basis ensuring the ATOLL database and RF data for various projects are populated correctly in order to complete CQs in the FUZE Conquest Tool.
  • Perform FUZE RFDS validation by verifying current and proposed technology, TxRx configuration and plumbing diagram including validation and checking of construction drawing to match the proposed configuration.
  • Create and complete CQs by defining the CPRI Port assignment and IPs for 5GmmW, LTE, LAA, CBRS and 5G-parameters such as gNB SSB, PRB Blanking for 5GNR in accordance with the project plan.
  • Initiate and complete multiple CQs in Conquest on a daily basis.
  • Work in Granite Inventory Tool updating and maintaining both 4G and 5G macro and small cell equipment as well as initiating work orders for equipment add and modification projects.
  • Work with the local Granite SME and development team to provide updates to better the Florida processes.
  • Support the Network Assurance teams to help troubleshoot any Conquest or configuration related issues when they are integrating new equipment via the IOP (Integrated Operations Portal) Tool.
  • Put together a BOM based on the HW Requirements as defined in the SOW specified in the RiPort Mapping.
  • Manage and monitor RTU / SW License statistics.
  • Use available tools to provide Ericsson eNB Forecast.
  • Interfaces with internal and external departments to include System Performance, RF
  • Engineering, Network Assurance, and other Implementation teams.

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Project.
  • A valid Driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Telecommunications track.
  • Knowledge of DC power systems used in the telecommunications environment.
  • Knowledge of cellular network architecture.
  • Knowledge of Alcatel Lucent base station equipment, CATS/FULCRUM, MapInfo and PeopleSoft.
  • Five or moreyears of experience in the wireless telecom industry (or military equivalent) with a focus on cell site engineering.
  • Proven ability to thrive while under tight dealdines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, competing priorities, and situations in which guidelines can change.
  • Abilityto learn new processes and technologies quickly; retain new info; and eager to do own research (on and off the job) in finding info and answers.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to setting and investigate/implement alternate approaches to resolve difficult problems with minimum management input.
  • Abilityto work flexible hours; support night and weekend work; answer phone calls whenever crews are on site supporting your projects; respond to emails promptly; and actively lead and participate in project/team meetings.
  • Knowledge of Ericsson 4G and 5G radios; LTE base stations; Cell Site Basebands and Routers.
  • In-depth knowledge of baseband dimensioning.
  • Knowledge of FUZE SPM, FUZE Conquest, IOP, ATOLL, and Granite Inventory databases.
  • Good understanding of RFDS and specifications (Antenna, RRHs, OVP, Hybrid Trunks and Jumper, Coaxial Cable, Splitters, In-band Combiners, Plexers, TMA and BAS Filters) for Capital projects and network deployment.
  • Knowledge with the Ericsson RAN architecture, IXR/L2 switch, and hub/CRAN deployment.
  • Basic knowledge of Vz Network Compliance and company standards/practices in the engineering and installation of 4G/eNB and 5G/gNB equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of CD and Project Close-Out-Package documents.
  • Good understanding of site power plants to include: DC power systems, AC UPS systems, emergency generators, and corresponding distribution systems.
  • Good understanding of cell site design/engineering, construction, and operations.
  • Highly proficient in computer applications: Google Gmail, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Solid & proven problem solving skills.
  • Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
