What you’ll be doing...

You will be contributing to the RF design of the regional cellular, PCS, 700 MHz and AWS LTE network including: search area definition and issuance, antenna system design, candidate evaluation and assessment, and approvals within sector area of responsibility; improvements and redesigns for embedded base network areas to address capacity and coverage issues; antenna optimization.

  • Work with various engineering and operations teams within the network to ensure performance fixes/initiatives are in place.
  • Partner with System Performance to reduce lost/dropped calls and ineffective/blocked attempts (1X voice, EVDO, LTE & VoLTE) to meet and exceed VzW requirements.
  • Prepare timely FCC/FAA and regulatory submissions; providing cell translations configuration packages for new build and network growth.
  • Conduct analysis of regional population centers and drive data for candidate location, new site integration, and system optimization; performing radio engineering evaluation for system planning and site acquisition.
  • Create and use RF propagation and planning tools; conducting and overseeing field tests for potential sites; planning frequency assignments and identifying technical parameters for network growth.
  • Document and report findings; plan near-term integration of new technologies for first applications in the network; identify location-specific needs for new cells using appropriate methods to rank objectively; evaluate coverage problems and new service area requirements for coverage cells.
  • Utilize propagation modeling software to develop improved wireless service plans and maximize signal-to-noise performance; acceptance testing of new RF antenna systems; identifying causes of RF interference and troubleshooting interference problems with system performance.
  • Support of zoning hearings for new cell site acquisitions.
  • Contribute in the development of long-term build plans; performing Macro/Micro/Small Cell/CRAN Design including antenna selection and placement; utilizing knowledge of LTE and microwave to contribute in network design.
  • Ensure that all regulatory and EME requirements are fulfilled and associated information is kept updated provided to HQ; and assisting in the training and development of newer RF Engineers; documenting, tracking and follow-up of all project deliverables within VzW workflow databases.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer science or one or more years of work experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge/training in the following areas for theory and/or design: antennas, transmission lines, electromagnetics, wireless communications and modulation schemes, wireless standards.
  • Experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry.
  • Experience in RF Design including: 4G LTE (VoLTE knowledge a plus), 5G, CDMA, EVDO; GSM.
  • Experience with RF Design and Performance data collection and post-processing tools.
  • Experience with RF signal analysis tools including: vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, PIM analyzer, scanner devices, wireless communication test sets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cellular Architecture, and RF Theory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BTS, MCPA, TMA, RRH and Antenna Structures, RF Cabling and fiber interfaces.
  • Knowledge of In-Building Repeater and DAS systems.
  • Knowledge of data network architectures and protocols.
  • Analytic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with RF design tools to include: RF Propagation Models (ATOLL), MapInfo, Google mapping applications.
  • Experience in Microsoft office/Google applications: Excel/Sheets (including macros, pivot tables and Visual Basic, Word/Docs, PowerPoint/Slides, Access as applied to actual project solutions, Outlook, Visio, Project).
  • Proven interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage numerous projects simultaneously.
