What you’ll be doing...

This position is responsible for leading and managing Payroll Managers, Supervisors, and Senior Analysts’ functions whose responsibilities require the timely and accurate processing of Global Payroll transactions that produce pay for all employees.The Payroll Senior Manager - Transactions will direct the collection, calculation, and entering of data to adhere to the pay calendar to support all Payroll transactions. These transactions include those related to deductions, garnishments, newly-hired employees, special payments (commission, bonus, annual/long-term incentives, military, etc.), salary changes, sickness/short-term disability benefits,taxes, and terminations, This position is also responsible for ensuring transactions are recorded in compliance with external legal, regulatory and statutory requirements along with Verizon policy / procedures and internal controls. This position is also responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of all Global Payroll Taxes & Funding functions for Verizon employees. These Taxes & Funding functionsinclude Banking, Balancing, Funding and Remittance of payments for all deductions, garnishments, and taxes, along with other specialized select tax processes. This position is responsible for determining functional performance in relation to training and auditing performed to ensure accuracy, timelines and quality is sustained and or exceeded. The Senior Manager – Transactions will be responsible for identifying efficiencies and improvements within the Global Payroll department. Strong payroll related system knowledge is required for the entire Payroll cycle from earnings, deductions, garnishments and taxes. You will interact and provide input on policy and process decisions that integrate with Human Resources, Benefits, IT, Labor Relations, Accounting, Finance, and Field Operations in addition to providing managerial support for external vendor relationships.You will highly interact with the other Senior Managers in the Global Payroll department.

  • Leads and manages the day to day operations for the Global Payroll Transactions functions, which includes identifying, managing and implementing strategic initiatives, projects and process improvements (e.g., system and VLSS) for Payroll.
  • Continually reviews Payroll work practices and procedures for better operational efficiency; and to proactively identify and resolve potential issues in Payroll transactions and processes.
  • Reviews and ensures accuracy of gross pay to net pay, including earnings, deductions, garnishments, and taxes for all employees.
  • Manages New Hire processing to ensure a timely initial payroll payment.
  • Provides managerial support for all transactions related to special payments (commission, bonus, annual/long-term incentive, legal payments, etc.), salary changes, military, and transactions and associated vendor relationships.
  • Manages Short-Term Disability transaction processing, including benefit payment calculations and ensures transactions are processed in accordance with Absence policies/procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Oversees the transaction processing of all employee tax related withholdings and garnishments in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
  • Manages the Termination transaction processing in accordance with federal and state specific laws.
  • Supports accurate timekeeping transactions within applicable primary and feeder applications.
  • Provides managerial support for third party vendor relationships, including Absence, Benefits, Garnishment, Savings Plan, and Taxes.
  • Supports year-end special annual incentive program payments, including Senior Management and expatriates.
  • Understands Executive Compensation policies/programs and tax rules associated with special payments.
  • Coordinates and interacts with the Payroll Transactions and Operational Support Enterprise team to remain updated and compliant with all federal, state and local laws, and rules, as appropriate, and any impacts to Verizon employees. This includes the scope of taxes, garnishments, wage and pay practices, and sickness / disability laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates and interacts with the Payroll Customer Service teams to support employee customer service support/help desk, as appropriate.
  • Ensures consistent application and adherence to Verizon policies, procedures and controls as it relates to Payroll transactions; coordinates and interacts with the Payroll Enterprise Validation Processing team to ensure accurate and timely processing of Payroll payments.
  • Facilitates timely and accurate Payroll processing related to banking, balancing, funding and remittance of deductions, garnishments, and taxes to proper authorities, etc.
  • Supports the Payroll Transactions and Operational Support team, including acquisitions, mergers and sales of entities.
  • Supports Global payroll responsibilities, where feasible and appropriate.
  • Monitors trends related to customers, competitors, and other groups that impact Payroll.
  • Works with the Payroll Director in coordination of departmental efforts, objectives and strategic goals. This includes, but is not limited to, prioritization of work, budgets, staffing, and policy decisions.
  • Responsible for hiring, determining staffing levels and resource allocation for the Payroll Transactions team.
  • Manages, through professionals and/or supervisors, the activities of a section or department. Responsible for results in terms of costs, methods and employees.
  • Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Responsible for career development and mentoring to staff.
  • Champions opportunities to simplify and standardize systems and data across the company.
  • Effectively manages a diverse,multi-functioned organization.
  • Provide support for annual Sarbanes Oxley audit and any related audits, as required and works directly with internal and external audit.
  • Provide support to Payroll systems team as it relates to project development testing efforts.
  • Partner with process peers in Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Labor Relations,Corporate Taxes, and related third party vendors to resolve complex/escalated employee questions/issues.
  • Provide managerial support of Global payroll functions, where appropriate.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Two or more years of PeopleSoft HRMS systems.
  • Three or more years of experience with HRMS, Payroll, and time reporting processing, along with a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end payroll processing requirements.
  • Three or more years of management, coaching, and leadership experience.
  • Experience managing multiple functions simultaneously.
  • Experience working with various levels of leadership, including executive leadership.
  • Strong practical knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Project and MS Office.

Even better if you have:

  • Finance Operations/Payroll experience.
  • Ability to create meaningful presentations to present ideas and obtain approval.
  • Two or more years of customer service and operations experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional Certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, Human Resources, or finance related field.
