What you’ll be doing...

Software Defined-Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are disruptive technologies that have reshaped the IP and Managed Services portfolio. Combined with Cloud advancements including Multi-Cloud and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), these technologies offer the opportunity to change the landscape for Verizon customers for how they solution, order, and consume next-generation services to power their business.

In this new role, the Lead Product Engineer will develop cohesive end-to-end architectures across multiple product sets, leads teams of engineers across a diverse product portfolio, and ensures overall VBG Product Strategy is realized. Responsible for Cary Advanced Technology Center (ATC) lab vision, direction, and maintenance, and manages Lab Operations (LabOps) team. Conducts market research, monitors competitive activity, and identifies customer needs, product strategy and market trends. Partners with Learning and Development, Product, and Marketing teams to cultivate in-house expertise in Presales, Delivery, and Operations teams, and to develop compelling messaging, segmentation and marketing collateral for customers and partners. Leads beta trials, demos, and proof-of-concept solutions associated with the VNS/MNS portfolio. Represents Verizon’s technical and market prowess at industry conferences, road show events, and technical marketing campaigns. The lead will need to know how to work with virtualized network functions, SDN controllers, and cloud platforms. You will also design the interaction between applications, networks, and orchestration systems that connect via northbound application programming interfaces (APIs). Skills in the areas of networking, security, storage, compute, orchestration, virtualization and SDN architectures are needed.

  • Leading engineering and LabOps team to ensure objectives are met.
  • Being intimately aware, adaptable, and proficient in multi vendor solutions across the network, security, and virtualization space. This includes product lines from industry veterans such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Versa, Riverbed, Checkpoint, etc.
  • Creating detailed design documentation that is relevant, easy to consume, and concise in nature.
  • Working with interorganizational teams to ensure success throughout development, end-to-end testing, user acceptance testing, and alpha order submission/fulfillment.
  • Creating and carrying out test plans, documenting results, and providing guidance back into the product development process to ensure product operability and success.
  • Acting as a liaison to other organizations including Presales, Delivery, Operations, Security, etc. to provide technical leadership for new product launches.
  • Interacting with select and early adopter customers to help establish Verizon as a market leader and technology visionary.
  • Providing thought leadership and technical acumen as part of the larger Verizon VNS portfolio, and ensuring product and experience consistency across the portfolio compared to other technology solutions.
  • Providing leadership, collaboration, mentoring, and remediation as necessary to technology partners, contracting firms, and internal teams to ensure a successful product launch and continued success for the Verizon platforms and associated service chains.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six or more years of experience in development and implementation of IT and/or managed telecommunications solutions.
  • Five or more years of architecture experience in conceptualization, definition and development of IT-based products, services and solutions.
  • Five or more years ofexperience with SD-WAN engineering & implementation on multiple deployment options - Purpose built, Virtualized and on cloud.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • BS/BA in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related areas.
  • Industry Certifications such as CCIE, CCDE, CCNP, VCP.
  • Specialist Certifications such as RCSA, RCSP (Riverbed), Cisco WAN Optimization, Cisco Unified Communications, SD-WAN, Security.
  • Five or more years of experience in the development and implementation of one or more of the following: Managed/Non-Managed Unified Communications. Managed/Non-Managed Security Solutions (firewall, proxy, VPN, etc). Managed/Non-Managed Mobility Solutions. Data Center Outsourcing (cloud, application hosting, managed storage, etc). IT Applications Management (SOA, Web Services, RTE).

  • Preferred location is Cary, NC
  • If not located in Cary, this role will require up to 50% travel to Cary, NC
