What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial professional passionate about technology, drones and aviation. This role will report directly to the Director - Aviation Services and will be responsible for maintaining and further building a culture of safety, contributing to Verizon’s success at a “high” level and helping us to fulfill our mission. Verizon Aviation consists of highly skilled professionals who deliver unparalleled service by maintaining a daily focus on our team, our customers and the services we provide. You’ll travel 25% to 50% of the time and you will be able to work remotely from anywhere within the contiguous United States. As you use your drone, safety and leadership experience; you will add your knowledge to our team.

  • Lead the Safety Movement within Verizon’s Drone Program.
  • Assist in leading Verizon’s Drone Policy and Compliance Working Groups.
  • Further develop and update Verizon’s Drone Handbook.
  • Create an environment where each and every team member has an opportunity to develop their professional skills.
  • Develop, implement and execute a comprehensive safety and standards program that will be applicable to the entire Drone Program.
  • Guide the Drone Safety Team composed of representatives from various business units within Verizon’s Drone Program.
  • Maintain safety oversight of the entire Drone Program and be the point of contact for all safety matters while reporting directly to the Director of Aviation Services.
  • Interact with all Drone Program participants to encourage and achieve integration of all safety activities.
  • Foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities, outside agencies and key vendors. This will include ongoing internal audits and investigations as well as external audits to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify safety and environmental hazards and risks in order to promote the reduction or elimination of potentially hazardous conditions that may lead to accidents, occupational injuries, illness or death.
  • Report and investigate all drone safety and environmental incidents or accidents to determine the cause and formulate recommendations to help prevent similar mishaps in the future. This will be done in accordance with FAA and NTSB regulations as well as the Verizon Emergency Response Plan and industry best practices.
  • Develop required reports, conduct briefings and safety training and facilitate quarterly safety meetings with personnel from each area of Verizon’s Drone Program and safety team.
  • Be guided in all you do by our core principles of Safety, Integrity, Performance Excellence, Accountability and Social Responsibility.
  • Participate as an active member of Verizon Aviation’s leadership team by attending and contributing to all staff and strategy meetings.
  • Organize and lead our Drone Program’s annual Safety Day.
  • Establish and manage the budget for the Drone Safety and Standards Department.

** This position can be located in other valid Verizon corporate office domestic locations. **

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • A Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Even better if you have:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Five or more years in aviation or related experience.
  • Proven ability to connect and establish a rapport with a wide range of people.
  • Human factors, accident prevention, risk management, safety management and emergency response planning experience.
