What you’ll be doing...

The position will play a critical role in influencing the roadmap for device technology and enhancing the customer experience. This position is a unique opportunity to work in Device Technology as subject matter expert in the Core Service suite of products including IMS, VoNR/VoLTE, VoWiFi, Video Calling and Location Services. The position will be responsible for developing new products, supporting marketing and product development in device integration, performing trial work to certify new technologies and contributing to standards body.

  • Owns IP Calling/Messaging Core Services evolution and 5G NR/5GC migration across device platforms
  • Develops and maintains device requirements, engages with device to OEMs to ensure a successful integration and launch of new products within the core services suite
  • Works with RAN/Core cross functional teams to reach consensus and develop architecture solutions that span multiple technologies and organization boundaries
  • Builds vertical knowledge base from IP to RAN levels and remains actively updated on 5G RAN/Core feature roadmap and 3GPP releases
  • Prototypes, trials and deliver proof of concepts for emerging technologies or initiatives
  • Plans 2-3 year technology roadmap with a focus on device driven technologies
  • Follows and understands technology trends and perform competitive analysis to help formulate the vision and influence the device technology roadmap
  • Owns the documentation to support the product beginning with Marketing Service Requirements and ending with device / service launch
  • Supports launch strategies including alignment to marketing objectives, training requirements, standard customer service levels, technical support requirements, and related procedures
  • Identifies areas of opportunity for new products and enhancements of existing products
  • Participates in standards, evaluates impacts and influences standards to meet Verizon short and long term core services objectives
  • Regularly engages with the field to keep a pulse on new technologies or opportunities
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors for new applications and services, driving contracts to completion with sourcing partners

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
  • Experience with product development life cycle from inception to launch
  • Experience with real-time VoIP, RCS and associated protocols – SIP, SDP, RTP, RTCP, UDP, TCP/IP, MSRP
  • In depth knowledge and working experience LTE/5G in one or more of PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC, PDCP layers
  • Working knowledge of GSMA, 3GPP RAN1/RAN4 standards and 5G Non-standalone (NSA)/Standalone (SA) network architecture
  • Familiarity with LTE/5G advanced concepts such as DSS, Carrier Aggregation, Multi Edge Computing (MEC), CAT-M, and Location Positioning
  • Knowledge of Android and iOS OS platforms
  • Experience with device testing, debugging and performing log analysis using Wireshark or other protocol analyzers
  • Experience with writing technical requirements, test plans, procedures and proposals
  • Experience with vendor and project management
  • Strong written/verbal communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and reach consensus with cross functional teams
  • Forward thinker, willing to take on special projects and new initiatives
