What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Technology Product Development (TPD) Product Security team works to incorporate governance and security into the design of technology systems and services while promoting Verizon security standards in the TPD organization. The TPD team is also responsible for the AWS infrastructure, PACT (Product AWS Cloud Technology). PACT is the directional platform for AWS deployments that provides a consistent, repeatable and secure way to drive product creation and innovation for all TPD, VBG and VCG product teams.

The PACT architecture and governance team is responsible for planning and review of overall architecture, development and implementation of the PACT AWS platform and support of the products that are on it. Working with colleagues from across the TPD organization, you’ll operate complex, large-scale projects to get new applications up and running as well as working with various Verizon consumer and business teams to migrate existing legacy AWS products and services on to the PACT AWS platform.

As a member of the PACT infrastructure DevOps group you will be responsible for building a wide variety of highly automated systems that enable our high-availability service platform. This high-availability service platform has infrastructure as code at its core. Therefore, we are looking for a DevOps engineer who follows modern software development methodologies. Cloud infrastructure that is defined through code and versioned through source code control. You not only believe in fully automating the creation and deployment of infrastructure but also building test cases that validate all changes before they get executed in production. Ideally you have worked with AWS and developed CloudFormations for your deployments. You are familiar with the Linux operating system as well as Kubernetes and containers. You are able to automate using various scripting technologies and ensure your tools and changes are properly documented.

We are looking for a DevOps engineer who wants to join a highly enthusiastic team of engineers building and operating our next generation of our product cloud (PACT).

  • Documenting, building and promoting AWS Services Catalog consumable by the PACT platform.
  • Supporting security, networking, and platform peers in detailed infrastructure and application requirements.
  • Working on highly complex, large-scale projects to get new applications onto the PACT platform.
  • Participating in PACT workshops and collaborating with project managers and platform and application leadership teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Building and operating on major/key projects and initiatives such as but not limited to greenfield, brownfield product onboarding and creation of Public Sector solutions.
  • Participating in weekly stand ups and review/analyze weekly status reports for actionable items.
  • Participating in cross-functional team meetings with IT and business partners to ensure architecture project alignment.
  • Building relationships and synergies across business areas to promote security awareness, and improve security adoption to ensure the protection of Verizon corporate and customer information.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Experience to several of the following infrastructure components like Cassandra, Mongo, ElasticSearch, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience scripting in Bash, Perl or Python.
  • Kubernetes, Docker or other container experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Advanced degree.
  • AWS Professional Architect or Network Specialty Certification.
  • Knowledge of the Linux Operating System.
  • Site Reliability Engineering mindset.
  • Expert in AWS CloudFormation, chef and terraform scripting languages.
  • Expert in CI/CD pipeline tools like Jenkins, Gitlabs, and AWS codestar.
  • Experience in Kubernetes Framework and AWS EKS.
  • Experience with Docker and AWS ECS.
  • Knowledge of AWS AMI Bakery and packer.
  • Experience with Active Directory and SSO integration.
  • Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC, CloudFormation, Security Groups, and AWS Organizations.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies including sub-netting, firewalls and VPNs.
  • AWS Well Architected Framework knowledge.
  • CI/CD tooling experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills; ability to debug complex systems.
  • Experience with migration of large scale systems.
  • Knowledge of system design at an enterprise level.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector, FedRamp, FISMA.
  • Scripting/Programming in Python experience.
  • Auto-Remediation/ Compliance (Cloud Custodian) experience.
  • Knowledge of AWS resource security best practices (EC2, RDS, ELB, Api-Gateway, Lambda, Cognito).
