What you’ll be doing...

This position reports to the Payroll Senior Manager – Taxes and is responsible for leading the day to day operations for Global Payroll Tax Remittance functions, which includes supervising Senior Tax Analysts’ and ensuring compliance with applicable Payroll Tax laws and regulations.

You will be analytical and methodical, with a deep knowledge of multi-state taxation needed to ensure Verizon remains compliant. They will possess strong tax related knowledge in payroll and payroll tax reporting for federal, state, and local tax authorities for a large, complex multistate environment. You will ensure agency payments and reports are processed timely, tax rates are properly executed, and information requests are processed and responded to in accordance with taxing authority regulations. This position is also responsible for providing tactical direction for the development and implementation of reporting best practices and procedures to be compliant with federal, state and local agency regulations as well as provide opportunity for streamlined workflows. This position will also work closely with our internal stakeholders to ensure remittance inquiries are answered timely and accurately.

  • Coordinate and/or provide training when needed for new tax analysts or processes.
  • Provide analysis, advice, and counsel to business leaders about the impacts where tax return filings are involved.
  • Support company initiatives regarding streamlining Tracer resolution & POA submissions.
  • Utilize tax research tools, including BNA, to provide tax remittance guidance when it comes to tax return filing schedules.
  • Oversee reporting processes necessary to accomplish the organization's employment tax objectives.
  • Ensure defined tax calendars and checklists are adhered to guarantee that federal, state, and local filing obligations are met timely and accurately.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for any tax filing or notice related issues.
  • Monitor process controls and oversee ADP Quarterly Release testing of tax return filing changes to their extract file.
  • Assist in review and oversight of quarterly and annual payroll tax returns, schedules and assessments filed outside of ADP, ie: Nevada MBT, Business Licenses, Annual Surveys.
  • Assist in planning and compliance regarding international tax forms and matters including waivers and tax returns.
  • Monitor completion of related tax forms so they do not negatively impact our SUI rates - POAs, TPAs, & state tax transfer forms.
  • Ensure timely updates of unemployment tax rates in Verizon’s payroll and vendor systems.
  • Provide support or assistance where needed to answer tax notices/inquiries from various taxing jurisdictions.
  • Ensure account registrations & closures are completed timely & accurately as not to negatively impact tax return filings.
  • Ensure M&A tax paperwork pertaining to state tax transfers is completed prompt and correctly.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure timely processing of periodic and quarterly tax files.
  • Keep up-to-date on latest trends and changes to tax legislation to immediately assess impacts to tax provision, compliance, and planning efforts.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four years of relevant work experience.
  • Four years of multi-state, multi-jurisdiction, high volume payroll tax experience, including states with complex locals.
  • Three years of management, coaching, and leadership experience.
  • Three years of experience with HRMS, Payroll, and time reporting processing, along with a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end payroll tax processing requirements.
  • Three years of multi-state tax filing experience.
  • Three years of multi-state tax notice resolution experience.
  • Two years of PeopleSoft HRMS system experience.
  • Two years of Expatriate (inpats, expats) experience.

  • Good quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing multiple functions simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to manage large work volumes, show flexibility, and adapt easily to change.
  • Strong practical knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Project and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications, including HCM PeopleSoft, ADP, Workday.
  • Interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively across various levels in the organization.
  • Professional CPP or FPC certification, or in the process of achieving certifications.
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and across organizational lines.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize work, focus on achieving results, proactive with an attention to detail, and a strong sense of urgency.
