What you’ll be doing...

As a Strategic GCP Cloud Engineer on the team, you will provide technical guidance to GCP's adoption and GCP's services. You'll provide application design guidance to modernize existing applications or write new applications. You will be collaborating on new application design and implementation. Additionally, you will work closely with Product Management and Data Engineering to build and constantly drive excellence.

  • Responsible for implementation and ongoing performance tuning of BigQuery SQL scripts.
  • Ensure performance standards by configuring Auto-Scaling Solution to meet varying load requirements.
  • Establish best practices for support methodology and processes, including maintenance and support roadmaps, processes, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure standard processes and procedures are adhered to and improving existing processes to identify, prioritize, resolve and/or escalate issues.
  • Manage/Lead end-to-end Platform & Infrastructure requests with minimal direction from Functional Managers; can execute requests with strong attention to detail and strong time-management skills.
  • Work side by side with the teams (onshore & offshore) and take leadership on Google Cloud implementation for Verizon.
  • Work with third-party vendors and consultants on system upgrades, updates/changes through the problem resolution.
  • Plan, Configure, Deploy and Operate a cloud solution. Configure access and security tools. Automating the build and configuration of IaaS based solutions in Google Cloud Platform.
  • Implement automation tools and frameworks (CI/CD pipelines). Knowledge of Ansible, Jenkins, Jira, Artifactory, Git, etc.
  • Deliver Proof of Concepts for new Solutions on Cloud.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience building and supporting large-scale, business-critical systems on Public Cloud (Google Cloud Platform or AWS).
  • Experience with database (Oracle/Teradata) and SQL (Structured Query Language).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience hosting an application on GCP using Compute Engine, App Engine, Cloud SQL, Kubernetes Engine, and Cloud Storage.
  • Knowledge of Ruby or Python and known DevOps tools like Git and GitHub.
  • Experience with Big Data on GCP – BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataproc, Dataflow.
  • Experience with Hadoop, Hive and Kafka.
  • Knowledge of cloud design considerations and limitations and their impact on Pricing.
  • Networking principles and protocols such as IP subnetting, routing, firewall rules, Virtual Private Cloud, Load Balancer, Cloud DNS, Cloud CDN, etc.
  • Experience with a modern scripting language (preferably Python) for automation of build tasks.
  • Experience with infrastructure configuration management tools such as Terraform, Puppet, and Chef.
  • Experience working with: container technology such as Docker, version control systems (Github), build management and CI/CD tools (Concourse, Jenkins), and monitoring tools (App Dynamics, etc.).
  • General operational expertise such as good troubleshooting skills, understanding of systems.
