What you’ll be doing...

As a member of the 5G Labs team, you’ll be focused on building proofs-of-concept that accelerate Verizon’s 5G Ecosystem. Verizon is leading the industry in developing capabilities with 5G that will unlock new opportunities and experiences for consumers and enterprises. In this role, you’ll be stitching together the latest in enterprise and consumer technology to feed insights back to the business and bring the 5G network to life for Verizon’s customers.

  • Managing end-to-end completion of agency programs / projects and hands-on internal design.
  • Working closely with stakeholders including legal, sourcing, PR, marketing + brand, etc. in order to build buy-in and address obstacles to design programs / projects.
  • Working closely with product managers, creative storytellers, and other designers to build impactful, easy-to-understand prototypes.
  • Developing the underlying design infrastructure for the team to support faster development of future proof-of-concepts
  • Assessing concepts for feasibility from a technical design perspective and usability perspective..
  • Developing (and manage the development of) wireframes and user journeys that describe the bigger picture and support proof-of-concept development by telling a compelling story.
  • Bringing the “wow” moments to product design and prototyping.
  • Participating in internal concepting and ideation sessions and bring an engineering perspective to the discussion
  • Applying design thinking to problem solving.
  • Understanding 5G and technologies that benefit from it in order to make recommendations and stitch these technologies together for proof-of-concept builds.

What we’re looking for...

You have a desire to grow your familiarity with a breadth of new technologies and apply them, e.g. new digital or physical interfaces such as volumetric video studios, AR glasses, VR goggles, or 360° treadmills.
You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Four or more years of experience as a product and / or experience designer with fluency in software development approaches and design methodologies.
  • One or more years of experience managing designers and / or design agency resources.
  • Experience working closely with product managers or product teams.
  • Experience working closely with 2-D and 3-D engineers, technical artists, environment artists, and the like.
  • An ability to marry design quality and business need for the ‘right’ level of elegance for a given piece of code.
  • A desire to work with people and not just tools.
  • A strong affinity for organization and prioritization and task management.
  • Thoughtful approaches to the frameworks and approaches we take to design management.
  • A “jobs to be done”-first approach to product decisions.
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Substantial hands-on experience with product design tools e.g. Invision, Sketch, Zeplin, Adobe Suite.
  • MFA or MDes.
  • Experience with across a broad range of platforms (software + hardware).
  • Experience with Unity, Unreal, Blender, Maya and / or other high poly asset environments
  • Willing to work to change status quo when you think improvements are available.
  • Willing to work within established protocols while you go about changing them in order to maintain consistency in application development.
