What you’ll be doing...

The Director will lead a high performing team focused on driving differentiation of the Verizon network and solutions by building and leveraging a portfolio of sports partnerships. This role acts as the key relationship lead and steward for the enterprise across key major Sporting Leagues and teams within their vertical. This position reports into the VP, Sponsorships and together the team is responsible for developing and driving deep, holistic relationships to create unique customer engagement, deliver transformative innovation, advance growth targets, and demonstrate network superiority leveraging the combined assets of our partners and Verizon’s enterprise. This role is responsible for overseeing key sports league and team relationships/sponsorships including the NFL and NBA relationships. This role will also be responsible for cultivating short- and long-term strategies for investment to support the Verizon business and evaluating new opportunities, driving negotiations, and overseeing partner management for the vertical. This role will have decision-making ability as well as guidance to agencies, direct reports, and Business Unit stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic vision for their vertical partnerships and works across internal teams/ LOBs to develop a holistic approach, strategy to achieve objectives and integration into communication plans, sales strategies, marketing programs, tech and innovation roadmaps and more.
  • Lead strategy, business development, relationship management for general market and multicultural sponsorships within vertical including: NFL, NBA, and other clubs / teams and coordinate planning and execution across stakeholder teams.
  • Development of end-to-end sponsorships programs working in conjunction with business, brand, creative, social, media and experiential teams to achieve ROI and other objectives.
  • Nurturing and activating talent relationships across industries.
  • Accountable for driving strategy/agency direction for vertical partners.
  • Leads partnership negotiations and incorporates all business terms and touch points (network connectivity, in stadium signage, on site activation, technology, content rights) to achieve target goals.
  • Drive demand for new customer acquisition to meet gross add goals for the business.
  • Develop and drive engagement with programs that pay off a Network Superiority and reduce churn via Access benefits.
  • Develop and implement measurement plan to showcase ROI of the full partnership or platform.
  • Coordinate with VZ Marketing and BU Marketing Analytics team to analyze performance, monitor partnership investment for improvements ensuring overall partner ROI goals are being fully met.
  • Utilizes data across channels to further bolster the data informed aspects of our plans with data driven decisions and personalized messaging.
  • Effective stakeholdering and tight coordination with Integrated Marketing, Brand Creative, media and Business Units to ensure partnership objectives are achieved.
  • Work closely with other internal teams: Centralized media functions, Creative teams, Business Unit Sales and Marketing and Product teams, Network team, Local market teams, Finance, Legal and external agencies including key partners (i.e Momentum, Art & Science). Evolve the commercial architecture (partner, channel, direct, compensation plans) to enable high-speed expansion of NBI's products to properly balance the success of the long-term business strategy with near-term objectives.
  • Establish a suite of strategic partners across NBI, and bridge to relevant Verizon parties, to power next-generation solution sales that include 2+ service line solutions led by a Professional Services organization.
  • Define internal alignment with select Verizon teams to ensure a well-rounded go to market plan that utilizes Verizon as a potential channel for sales.
  • Develop strategic plans and set timelines for evaluation, development, and deployment of all commercial decisions and strategy.
  • Ensure the proper performance and financial efficiency of our commercial organization.
  • Lead due diligence activities in support of M&A initiatives, maximizing the strategic benefits and minimizing risks of acquisitions as they contribute to the NBI Strategy Process & Methodology.
  • Review and optimize commercial development processes to ensure consistent and predictable delivery of revenue.
  • Track and report on GTM metrics and Lead capacity and planning activities.
  • Preparing, presenting, and managing annual budgets for departmental hires, compensation, and marketing costs, etc. to the management team for review and approval Cross-Functional Collaboration.
  • Drive alignment with the executive team on sales and marketing prioritization and large customer engagements.
  • Ensure a close partnership with the product team to collectively bring high-quality software to customers in accordance with customer pain points, requirements, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Work closely with our service line leads to promote our products to existing and new customers.

What we’re looking for...

This executive will be a proven strategic leader with a consistent track record of high performance with best-in-class enterprises.

  • BS in Marketing and/or equivalent work experience; MBA strongly desired
  • 8+ years in Sales, Marketing, and/or Sports Marketing; experience in managing large, high-exposure partnership deals and applications
  • 5+ years of strategic / investment roadmap and strategic planning experience
  • Proven ability to assess and evaluate new opportunities
  • Established sports league and club network of senior level relationships and experience in successful business development with sports properties
  • Innovative thinker and proven leader
  • Strong team leadership experience; ability to build and lead a high-performing team, develop and nurture growth, and ability to motivate and direct employees to achieve business objectives
  • Strong strategic thinker; ability to develop and articulate effective strategies to achieve business objectives and balance day-to-day tactical issues with strategic initiatives
  • Strong financial acumen and proven negotiation skills
  • Strong project management discipline demonstrated by a history of on-time and on-budget launches; deadline oriented
  • Ability to translate business and marketing strategy into an effective sponsorship strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; deliver clear presentations at the most senior levels
  • Relationship driven; builds credible and trusting relationships with a broad range of colleagues, stakeholders, and business partners
  • High-energy person who can successfully manage multiple, high-visibility, complex, technical projects and priorities
