What you’ll be doing...

The Business Transformation organization is responsible for partnering with Field and Corporate functions in Verizon Consumer Group (VCG) to drive experience and process improvements. To enhance our ability to deliver business optimization across Business Transformation, we are creating a Manager level role within the Intelligent Automation team under Business Transformation with a current focus on creating best in class employee experiences that are critical to the evolution of our business using AI.

The Artificial Intelligence Program Portfolio Manager is a hands-on role that will provide oversight and management of all aspects of delivering Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) solutions end to end. You will be responsible for managing the full scope of activities for the [email protected] program, including but not limited to: partner exploration, experience design, solution development life-cycle, solution implementation, and demonstration of business value.

This role will strive for excellence in all phases of execution and lifecycle management. The ideal candidate will have the right attitude and an imaginative mind set and has extensive experience with AI/ML solution delivery. The individual will be comfortable working in an innovation-focused environment – in particular, evaluating emerging trends and technologies to assess their feasibility and viability and functioning effectively in a fail-fast environment. The position relies on the individual to be a self-starter and a quick learner, to have a futurist mindset, and to be able to innovate and report on tasks and status proactively.

  • Oversees AI/ML solution exploration and delivery through the entire development lifecycle, e.g. rapid prototype, design, build, assemble, test, and pilot.
  • Planning and Management of scope, schedule, budget, resources.
  • Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with project sponsors, project team business project lead, vendors and other key stakeholders.
  • Acts as an advocate for the [email protected] program and conducts outreach to identify partners and define scope for continuing collaborative efforts.
  • Facilitates definition of the project scope and detailed project plans.
  • Independently drives and monitors project milestones and critical dates to identify potential risks in the project schedule.
  • Assesses variances from the project plan, gathers metrics, and develops / implements changes as needed to ensure the project remains within scope, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Identifies project resource requirements and forms project teams by securing resources and mobilizing commitment.
  • Conducts project meetings (kickoffs, status, sponsor etc.). Establishes/runs project steering committee meetings.
  • Accountable for effectively and efficiently coordinating and managing ongoing project meetings, presentations and communications.
  • Manages project level risks, weighing and assessing probability, impact, documenting mitigation and contingency strategies.
  • Effectively manages the project team, including communicating individual roles and project expectations to ensure the project team has the tools and training required to perform effectively.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in project/program management and customer relationship management in the AI/ML technology space.
  • Experience working with transformation and/or innovation-style activities.
  • Experience with programming and software design fundamentals, e.g. object oriented and functional design principles, best practices, etc.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a broad range of AI/ML algorithms, e.g. NLP/Conversational AI, predictive modeling, deep learning, computer vision, etc.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with AI/ML solution development within cloud-based environments (e.g. Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure)
  • Experience delivering communications in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Experience in program management and/or AI/ML technology development.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Black or Green Belt in Lean | Six-Sigma.
  • Certified or can demonstrate discipline within SAFe Agile.
  • Extensive knowledgeof Verizon key business drivers, processes, and systems.
  • Experience with both relational and non-relational databases and data access methods, e.g. Postgres, MongoDB, SQL, NoSQL, RESTful API’s, GraphQL, etc.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Python programming environment or equivalent (e.g. R, Scala) and related open-source technologies such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, BERT, SpaCy, NLTK, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, Deeplearning4j, etc.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively under extreme time constraints and deliver results by critical deadlines.
  • Strong leadership abilities and documented management success record.
  • Proficiency in engaging and influencing large teams and functional leaders.
  • Strong competency in Verizon systems, practices and sales and support channels.
