The AI&D (Artificial Intelligence and Data) organization at Verizon focuses on delivering the power of data and AI to drive our marketplace leadership through innovative solutions that create value for our customers, shareholders, V teamers and society, responsibly.

The Data Governance and Architecture team specializes in cross functional data management and data governance initiatives providing insight and guidance towards data integrity across business units.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer, Data Governance for this exciting role who will lead the advancement of the enterprise data governance program. The role will provide project managements support specific to governance, policies and standards and compliance initiatives within the directorate. Establish a change management process as well as reporting & communication standards.

  • Apply broad-based knowledge and experience about data governance industry standards to develop and implement strategic improvement plans, identify capability gaps and develop and support the implementation of a recommended plan of action to close the gaps.
  • Manage organizational data metrics to continuously align data needs with the business requirements and data governance. Assess Data Maturity based on industry standard models & develops and collects monthly KPIs for the Data Governance program.
  • Act as a change agent to articulate intent, drive awareness, and support communications and training to ensure effective adoption of data governance policies and practices across Verizon.
  • Analyze the impacts of new federal, privacy and ethical regulatory requirements to the data governance solution.
  • Develop framework and holistic approach of implementing regulatory mandated data governance functionality across Verizon’s business units.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of new data governance requirements across Verizon. Identify, communicate, and coordinate interdependencies across portfolios, work efforts, and delivery teams.
  • Facilitate conversations to synthesize business / functional requirements.
  • Work with Data Architecture team to ensure meta model design meets CPRA legal requirements.
  • Liaise with Technical Architecture team to define the meta data flow and develop its phased adoption, including the support of redesign of the existing processes around the meta data.
  • Coordinate with Data Governance team to ensure the needed data management capabilities required by CPRA are prioritized accordingly with IBM Cloud Pak 4 Data team.
  • Support the development of the Enterprise Privacy Business Architecture and use it to drive the mobilization of CPRA efforts.
  • Establish program management framework to ensure project delivery across the data governance portfolio with clear accountability and transparency across the teams and business stakeholders, including success criteria, risks/issues, budgets and resources.
  • Translate project issues into impacts to empower senior stakeholders to make informative decisions.
  • Support PM and impacted stakeholders in various tasks, e.g. project work breakdown, RAID tracking, JIRA tracking & dashboard, status reporting through emails, PPT presentations, or status calls.
  • Identify obstacles and roadblocks and proactively advocate approaches to overcome them.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Data Management – data catalog, data governance rule definition, data protection, data provisioning, data sharing, data retention, data stewardship, etc.
  • Experience in Program Management within large enterprise level transformational initiatives including stakeholder management, consensus building, executive level reporting, risk management and mitigation

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Two to more years of business analysis experience in supporting large scale enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Exposure to privacy regulations – GDPR, CCPA, CPRA.
  • Experience in DCAM Framework.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to apply data management capabilities for efficiency and control.
  • Strong communication, ability to influence groups outside of your organization.
  • Ability to define phased approach towards data management capability deliveries.
  • Experience seeing a project through conclusion.
  • Ability to think through issues with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage the team’s time effectively.
  • Diligent in keeping project artifacts up to date.
  • Believer in an agile approach to innovation, i.e. the Scrum framework for the SDLC.
