What you’ll be doing...

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with experience in one or more of Database, Build, Application (UI or Fullstack) or QA Automation to lead one of our Squads. The successful candidate will be working at our Christchurch office, in a hands-on capacity within the Enterprise Fleet group and will be responsible for leading a squad in an agile environment, delivering world class products.

Within the Enterprise Fleet team you will be a leader in a very dynamic and successful team, continuously adapting & improving our methodologies and technologies to stay the best in what we are doing: providing innovative fleet tracking software to companies all around the world! A deep understanding of software architectures, platforms and paradigms are essential for this role.

  • Manage the personnel on your team. We expect a Squad Lead to lead by example in every area, none more so than in the hands on development of our people and our products.
  • Be the person whom your team look up to for technical guidance.
  • Be a decision maker and ensure your team comes on the journey once a decision is made.
  • Lead a Cross Functional Team (CFT): you will need to be comfortable with code on multiple platforms, business requirements, deployments, and testing.
  • Ensure blockers are getting actioned and resolved.
  • Be the primary contact for stakeholders and foster relationships outside of your direct squad.
  • Ensure collaboration with Architecture to ensure we are building the right solution, the right way.
  • Advocate for and your squad within the organisation.
  • Be a champion of technical excellence and quality within the squad.
  • Ensure that the team is achieving high unit test coverage.
  • Ensure that the team is actively contributing to and reacting to automation tests.
  • Ensure that code written is always to a high standard and that there is a robust code review process in place.
  • Be a champion of process within the team.
  • Educate the team on best practices, workflows, etc.
  • Optimise for your squad’s specific needs and strengths.
  • Participate in the hiring process through CV Reviews, Code Reviews, Phone Screens, and Technical interviews.
  • Ensure that the onboarding experience of new hires and transfers into the squad is valuable and repeatable.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar discipline or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong experience in agile/lean methodologies and processes (ideally Kanban) leading process improvements and engineering disciplines.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers.
  • Experience working in larger project and team environments with product, application support and operations teams.
  • Demonstrated delivery of major projects with a focus on quality and productivity in a CI/CD environment.
  • Experience in working on large products with multiple teams contributing to the same code base.
  • Experience in measuring and improving performance of production systems.
  • Experience in highly scalable, highly available platforms.
  • Expert level knowledge of Object Oriented/SOLID Design principles and practices.
  • Experience with common patterns in distributed systems (REST, SOA, DDD).
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines.
  • Knowledge of GIT or related source control technology.
  • Excellent development experience on a minimum of one of .NET, iOS, Android, Angular, QA Automation, SQL Server.

Even better if you have:

  • Knowledge of AWS based architectures and services.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral - with experience in presenting to engineering and product groups.
  • Ability to lead systems analysis with application design individually and with an architecture team to deliver detailed application specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and /or guide a team.
  • Extensive experience with .NET, Postgres, and Angular.
