What you’ll be doing...

The Network Security Planning (NSP) team is seeking a Senior Security Planner for Radio Network Cryptography to determine our security requirements, architectures, and roadmaps for cryptographic systems which protect Verizon’s networks. These capabilities include cryptographic hardware technology (HSM) to ensure the integrity and security of Verizon secrets at rest. Crypto planning responsibilities also include implementing secure processes to manage Verizon secrets, and ensuring the privacy of sensitive data in transit. The Senior Planner will also support security architecture and roadmap development for Verizon’s key systems such as its 4G/5G networks, intelligent Edge Network (iEN), IoT networks and devices, and big data/cloud by ensuring his/her plans capabilities to support and protect those systems. The SME will also work with academic and research institutions to identify and mitigate long-term security threats affecting data protection.

As a member of the NSP team, you will work in a fast-paced environment focused on planning and managing security risk for Verizon’s most critical systems. You will interact with resources designing and building key systems, security engineering and operations teams, and the Verizon CISO organization to ensure the team’s recommendations address operational considerations. You will ensure the team collaborates with vendors and the broader security community to stay up to speed on the latest security developments and ensure their future capabilities align with Verizon’s needs.

Responsibilities

  • As the security Service Owner, define objectives, technical work, and timeline for developing architectures, roadmaps, and requirements for Radio Network Cryptography security controls/capabilities.
  • Research and conduct POCs with new vendors to determine what new capabilities are viable and what could/should be on the roadmap.
  • Execute security RFIs/RFPs when it is time to reevaluate vendors and select the winning vendor.
  • Document the security automation capabilities and deployments in artifacts such as high-level designs (HLDs) and low-level designs (LLDs).
  • Engineer and shepherd security deployments for Radio Network Cryptography Elements (SMDP, HSS, SIMOTA, MTAS etc).
  • Collect feedback from stakeholders and users of security capabilities and incorporate that feedback into the roadmap so the service continually improves. Create metrics/KPIs to show how the service is improving security over time.
  • Build relationships with device, engineering, operations, and security teams to understand how to develop plans that effectively manage Verizon’s security risks.
  • Communicate progress, findings, and ensure successful handoff of deliverables to program and operational teams.
  • Provide thought leadership by participating in network and security forums and collaborating with academic and research institutions.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field, (Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering).
  • Experience in hands-on Linux/Unix environment System Administration.
  • Experience using advanced Cryptographic concepts, Encryption techniques and technology.
  • Familiarity with Perl and Python scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with and practical experience in network (IPv4, IPv6), firewalls, IDS, DDoS protection) or IT security (e.g., access control, Linux hardening).
  • Familiarity with HSM management, setup/installation, administration, operations.
  • Familiarity and practical experience documenting and building security architectures, program requirements, roadmaps, and processes.
  • Familiarity with Cloud, Virtualization and container technologies.
  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple high priority projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-visibility, complex technical projects.
  • Extremely strong problem-solving skills.
