What you’ll be doing...

This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program or are participants of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 1-2022.

You will be a developing professional in our Accounting organization, with the drive and motivation to expand your experience and develop subject matter expertise in a variety of topics. You have a solid conceptual accounting knowledge base, and potentially some experience in applying these concepts to operational scenarios. You will be given responsibilities for key components of the financial statement close process, which will provide a forum to develop your skills. In addition, you have a desire to learn and develop your skills as part of a dynamic and challenging Finance organization. This position performs general accounting assignments and project tasks and reports to an

Accounting Supervisor or Sr. Accounting Manager. A majority of the responsibilities will be routine in nature and performed under a relatively high level of supervision.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Prepares accounting related reports.

  • Assists with monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities.

  • Prepares and analyzes journal entries; proposes adjustments as necessary.

  • Prepares account reconciliations, actively investigates reconciling items and proposes resolution.

  • Demonstrates familiarity with a broad variety of data sources and process flows impacting accounting transactions.

  • Verifies records are processed, reviews posting issues and resolves errors.

  • Compares system outputs with daily input verifying for accuracy and resolves discrepancies.

  • Assists in the analysis and interpretation of accounting records for use by management, as required.

  • Supports the company’s compliance with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley, GAAP and Verizon Accounting Policy requirements.

  • Assists in the documentation of less complex accounting projects

  • Maintains records of routine accounting transactions

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 1-2022.

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • One or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business related field.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel.

  • CPA certification or in the process of attaining the CPA certification.

  • Knowledge of FASB requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Working knowledge of accounting systems and applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and Blackline.
