What you’ll be doing...

Azure Cloud and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) engineer at Verizon focuses on the design and implementation of cloud-based computing systems and the solutions that take advantage of this edge based platform. In this customer facing role, you will serve as a primary technical engineer to architect, design and implement for Verizon’s MEC customers. You’ll provide guidance and thought leadership regarding problem solving to solve customer problems utilizing Verizon solutions. You’ll operate in a matrix structure and be part of a team of professional services consultants, project managers, architects and engineers. These resources could be dedicated to a particular project or shared across multiple projects.
You will use excellent communication skills to interact with others as we develop the system plans and technical architectures for our customers. You must have a clear understanding of the needs of Verizon, and our customers and how MEC services will be best used so that jointly we will develop a system that will meet customer needs. You will produce documentation outlining the design of customer systems and be prepared to implement those systems on the edge platform. You will be a cloud and MEC subject matter expert and will perform hands-on design and DevOps functions.

  • Understanding customer cloud and edge requirements.
  • Designing, architecting and deploying cloud and edge based solutions.
  • Constructing cloud-based servers.
  • Overseeing the work of cloud architects and other staff.
  • Assessing the software needs of our customers’ business.
  • Ensuring cloud-based systems and programs are secure.
  • Implementing IOT solutions on the MEC platform.
  • Testing systems.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or related technical field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six or more years of experience in a technical Cloud/Edge/IOT pre-sales/solutions architecture organization.
  • Hands-on development experience with Azure Cloud platforms: Azure services, Azure stack edge, IOT Hub/Central, AKS, Azure functions, Vnets, Azure advisor, ARM templates.
  • Hands-on experience with container/virtualization technologies: VMware, OpenStack, Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm, etc.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation/orchestration technologies: Chef, Packer, Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, etc.
  • Experience in workload migration, security controls and devops.
  • Experience designing, deploying and configuring solutions built with Azure services.
  • Hands on experience in networking, routing and switching technologies.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have:

  • Software development in computer programming languages, such as Python, SQL, and JavaScript.
  • Good understanding of cellular connectivity technologies: 5G, LTE, CBRS, etc.
  • Cloud Certifications: Azure solutions architect.
  • Understanding of multiple cloud platforms.
  • Versed in Agile product management methodology and tools.
  • Understanding of IT needs of vertical industries: Healthcare, Retail, or Manufacturing industries.
