When you join Verizon

Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect across the globe. We’re a diverse network of people driven by our shared ambition to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.

What you’ll be doing...

We want to liberate access to digital media, delighting our customers with beautifully crafted products that put them in control of their media. That’s where you come in. Working in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment, you’ll be a lead architect and Scala subject matter expert, helping teams to develop scalable, high availability cloud based solutions for IPTV. Your work will help us ensure we redefine how media is consumed in the world today.

  • Architecting, developing, and deploying services into virtualized cloud infrastructure.
  • Integrating voice and notification components and building highly scalable, N+1 redundant web-services architecture.
  • Building monitoring tools to support, configure, and derive business intelligence from our solutions.
  • Implementing visualization tools to analyze large data sets.
  • Representing us in the Scala community, interacting with teams to troubleshoot complex problems, and driving the adoption of functional programming.

What we’re looking for...

You get excited by the possibilities that technology creates and how it can improve people’s lives. Applying your analytical skills and expertise to solve complex problems is personally rewarding. While you are self-motivated and work well on your own, people also know you for your ability to drive the performance of multi-functional teams and deliver great results. No stranger to working in a fast-paced environment, you convey a sense of urgency and manage multiple opposing priorities with ease, never missing a deadline.
You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Experience productizing at least one scalable cloud service.
  • Knowledge of FP concepts and Scala programming.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer engineering.
  • Experience building RESTful services, web-sockets, and data serialization techniques such as ProtoBuf, Flatbuff or WAMP.
  • Experience of building secure web-services.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Zookeeper, Kafka, and databases such as Cassandra.
  • Experience in scripting and data analysis.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
