What you’ll be doing...

As a Data Engineer, you will be solving technical problems and building innovative solutions in a fast paced environment working with smart and passionate team members. You will be responsible for building data pipelines that are used to transport data from a data source to our data warehouse. These pipelines are crucial to enable our organization to access and analyze data, and use the insights to make business decisions. Data pipelines transport and transform data according to established business rules or a line of exploratory analysis the business wants to undertake.

You’ll drive innovation, profitability, revenue, and business growth opportunities by applying advanced database modeling and implementation skills and follow data architecture design principles to support the generation of insights, metrics, analytics, and self-service business intelligence across Visible. You will be detail oriented, self-directed, self-motivated, with a strong capacity for working successfully and collaboratively with members across the organization.

  • Design, build and support data processing pipelines and APIs.
  • Design and implement ETL mappings and workflows.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements such as automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and ‘big data’ technologies.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Keep our data separated and secure across multiple platforms through different prod structures aligned with dedicated lower environments.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Ensure that code adheres to defined standards and best practices for performance, speed, scalability, and quality.
  • Practice Agile development methods and exemplify core Agile values of transparency, collaboration, acceptance of change, and iterative development.
  • Routinely deliver working data solutions that meet or exceed specifications and performance goals.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four years of relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of software engineering experience, including Java, Python, and/or related languages.
  • Four or more years of experience with relational database technologies (Postgres, MySql, etc.) including SQL.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) BigQuery, Dataflow.
  • Experience with data architecture, data governance, data migration and data reconciliation processes.
  • Experience with data mining and data validation

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or four or more years of work experience.
  • A Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • ETL or Data cleansing & normalizing.
  • Big Data, data analysis, log mining, and automated reporting.
  • Knowledge of Data Modeling / Gap Analysis.
  • Experience doing query performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of microservices and Google Kubernetes Engine.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative Agile team.
  • Ability and desire to learn new skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills. Ability to embrace change and work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
