What you’ll be doing...

The successful candidate will technically lead the Transport Engineering and Implementation team with responsibilities for engineering Verizon’s new Intelligent Edge Network in the west territory to support our Mobile Edge Compute (MEC) initiative. This new network leverages virtualization and software defined networking to transform how we provide products and services while maintaining our position as the industry leader. Verizon is seeking a motivated and driven professional who will lead the engineering and implementation of MEC projects and work closely with the Planning, Design and Operations teams to implement our strategic technology goals with Cloud Service Providers (CSP). The candidate will work to create an environment of teamwork and cooperation with all stakeholders including territories, edge, design and cloud teams. Be visible and lead by example.

  • Take the lead role to support Verizon’s strategic technology goals in the Mobile Edge Compute (MEC) space.
  • Responsible for being the technical lead to understand a highly complex spine/leaf network design for each CSP and translating that design into a usable network configuration.
  • Lead the MEC engagement to develop the complex site/partner specific network configurations for each CSP launch.
  • Technically lead First Office Applications (FOAs) by applying best practices, coordinating with peer teams, reviewing documentation, leading the implementation during the maintenance window and providing knowledge sharing sessions for successive rollouts.
  • Engage with peer engineers to drive successful completion of MEC rollouts on time with accuracy, efficiency and consistency across Verizon.
  • Be the lead MEC engineer to assist other engineers by providing technical guidance, assistance and training.
  • Take responsibility to complete all network troubleshooting, drive resolution to issues and test the network with the CSP prior to MEC launch dates.
  • Provide the highest level of technical interaction with design and architecture teams to drive the future MEC architecture.
  • Utilize automation to check physical connectivity of newly deployed equipment and deploy spine/leaf network configurations specific to a CSP.
  • Provide feedback into the automation process to drive fast and more scalable configuration deployments.
  • Must work with underlay and overlay controllers for network creation, network modeling, and network deployments.
  • Overseeing all MEC network builds from procurement to “In Service”
  • Track, engage and drive peer teams to complete equipment deployment to allow for network configuration deployments before MEC launch dates.
  • Work with peer teams to ensure new MEC networks are built, alarmed and meet KPIs per best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with existing team members to meet team goals.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of MPLS.
  • Hands on experience with virtualization of networks.
  • Hands on experience with spine and leaf network architectures, designs, engineering and implementation.
  • Functional knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6).
  • Strong hands on experience with eBGP/iBGP.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Knowledge of Cisco and/or Nokia spine and leaf fabric networking.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience with MPLS Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs.
  • Worked with Cisco (VTS), Nokia (Nuage) or Itential (IAP) automation tools.
  • Understanding of networking-specific technologies: IPV6, L2VPN, L3VPN, OSPFv3, mp-BGP, QOS/Traffic Engineering, MPLS (LDP & TDP), inter-AS MPLS, and m-VPN.
  • Cisco and Nokia or other networking certifications.
  • A strong ability to understand end to end call flows for deploying network services.
  • Knowledge of or prior experience with cloud and scripting experience in Linux, Openstack, Python and virtualization.
  • Cloud Service Provider experience.
  • CCNA or other networking certifications.

For part-timers, your coverage will vary as you may be eligible for some of these benefits depending on your individual circumstances.

If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the compensation range for this position is between $90,000 and $168,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience.  This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
