What you’ll be doing...

The Principal Engineer-Data Governance is a critical role to our developing data governance practice to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our data across our enterprise. You will lead the Data Governance effort for the People Analytics and Insights team with the support of the broader HRIS and Data Enablement organization. You would be responsible for the development and implementation of the Data Governance program focused on accuracy, integrity, completeness, accessibility, and validity of data. The Data Governance framework encompasses all data components across a complex enterprise data warehouse that supports our HR BI, analytics, and data driven capabilities as well as collaborating with key data owners across the company.
You will lead the data catalog initiative for successful design, implementation, end user training and adoption. You will interface with cross functional teams to roll-out the enterprise data catalog integrated with data access workflow, lineage and health scorecard as critical components of information governance at the enterprise level. As a key addition to the Business Intelligence and Data Enablement leadership People Analytics and Insights team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Business Intelligence, you will play a critical role in coordinating strategy, sustaining excellence and nurturing team culture and growth. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in driving high visibility projects.

  • Create and publish an enterprise wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability.
  • Collaborate with resources from the Business, IT and operations functions, to achieve governance objectives; resolve governance issues with functional representatives.
  • Create operational processes to include Data Governance principles, policies and processes as new systems are onboarded, updated and retired throughout the Application Management Lifecycle.
  • Provide progress reports to management and oversee periodic updates to the Governance Roadmap.
  • Work with the development team to contribute to the creation of tools and processes to maintain a data catalog. Create and maintain data catalogs.
  • Provide data subject matter expertise to various project teams as it relates to data management and governance. Understand and communicate impacts of data components across all systems.
  • Partner with leadership to implement new processes and procedures for more efficient ways to maintain the overall data quality in all systems.
  • Work autonomously and applies judgment and decision making in data governance related issues.
  • Support the effort to develop data reporting such as key metrics, project trackers, and dashboards.
  • Facilitate the development and maintain the data dictionary and structures across applicable systems.
  • Establish efficient validation processes that can be carried out consistently to ensure data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Information Security to classify and establish processes related to our Enterprise Data Privacy Policies (CCPA, GDPR, etc.)

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Hands-on working experience with Informatica Data Governance products like Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC), Axon Data Governance and Data Quality, Data Privacy Manager (DPM).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree preferred in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; or equivalent experience in related field(s).
  • Five or more years of related and progressive experience in Data Governance and related fields.
  • Experience defining or building data catalog products and roll-out strategy.
  • Experience in drafting and managing data policies, business data processes, data catalogs, and business glossaries.
  • Experience with SQL and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, data modeling, and data warehouse concepts.
  • Ability to perform data analysis and data anomaly detection.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, interact and communicate with customers who have varying levels of expertise.
  • Ability to partner with key stakeholders to lead change through process.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to less technical users.
  • Ability to communicate in-depth business processes to technical resources.
  • Ability to perform fit/gap analysis based on requirements.
