What you’ll be doing...

We are supporting our growing business and senior executives by setting strategy and providing Security planning, coverage and guidance for significant Company sponsored and attended special events. We are also improving efficiency and enhancing service levels for our customers. You’ll be managing strategic projects that will ultimately drive exceptional customer satisfaction for our internal customers and executives and external partners and sponsors. You’ll bring together cross-functional teams across geographic regions to work together to implement programs to make us deliver even better solutions and services.

This position will project manage the Special Event Security program for Verizon, and departmental projects intended to standardize and enhance security processes and operations. This program ensures Verizon's executives, employees, customers, external partners and sponsors participating in Verizon sponsored or supported events are provided a safe environment. Youwill develop strategies and conduct comprehensive risk assessments (security advances) of events, venues and attendees to maximize participant safety. This position will devise adequate security and crisis management plans and assemble cross functional teams in support of each event. The project manager will lead onsite security teams supporting covered events and is responsible for coordinating with internal and external support teams. This position is responsible for developing strategic relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement, and venue security leaders and others hosting or supporting events. In the event of a security incident, the project manager will execute crisis management plans and will be responsible for leading responses that minimize impact to our executives, employees, guests and the Verizon brand.

This job requires a significant understanding of the concepts and principles of security risk assessments and special event security/executive protection. This position is required to work with and influence "C suite” executives at high profile events including Board meetings, shareholder meetings, national special security events, sporting events, and other public appearances by company leaders. When not managing the special events program this position is responsible for leading special projects and may be required to assist with investigations.Develops projects solely based on Security's mission and vision; manages project from beginning to implementation, and incorporates project goals into Security's overall team goals and initiatives. As Project Manager, responsible for project team members' deliverables and takes appropriate action to ensure deliverables are met by proposed due date despite hurdles.

  • Managing high visibility strategic projects.
  • Forging cross-functional partnerships to get to the work done.
  • Creating detailed project plans and communicating updates.
  • Identifying global resource requirements and pulling in the right people.
  • Developing, reviewing, and continuously improving processes.
  • Monitoring project progress, anticipating and reducing risk.
  • Enhancing operations.
  • Forge external business partner and law enforcement relationships with the FBI, US Secret Service, DHS and state and local law enforcement.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Managed large complex projects involving multiple work streams and stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management, specifically in managing Security for interests at major events and special projects.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree. Ideally, in project management.
  • Conflict and problem resolution skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interface with senior leaders.
  • Managed projects with PMI or MSP methodologies.
  • Certification in PMP and/or MSP.
  • Practical knowledge of PPM tools.
  • Motivated and influenced teams to deliver outcomes and results.
  • Special event/executive security program management experience.
  • Knowledge of the corporate structure.
  • Proven acumen in thinking out of the box and experience as the single point of contact for major Security projects and implementing them from concept to full implementation. Tests project effectiveness with broad guidance and assistance from his/her project team.
  • Expert-level writing and presentation skills.
  • Establishes project team goals and develops metrics for tracking in order to provide feedback to senior management and gauge project's progression.
  • Independent thinker who commands full understanding of principles, theories, and concepts of Security projects and initiatives.
  • Computer skills, including a high working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe PDF files.
