What you’ll be doing...

The Global Network Management – Virtual Engineering Network Management (VENM) in Verizon manages business critical VoLTE and IMS platforms that provide 3G, 4G, and 5G services to Verizon customers. You will function as Tenant Engineering Lead providing subject matter expertise on OpenStack in support of the Identity Management Server (IdMS) and operational engineering for the MRFC-Tones Virtual Network Functions (VNF). You will regularly lead multiple medium-to-large-scale critical projects and provide guidance to cross-organizational staff and technology manufacturers. You will be responsible for performing root-cause-analysis and resolve issues with production IdMS and MRF Tones. You will participate in budget planning and the contract review process, as well as take action on purchase orders, develop deployment plans, track milestones, and ensure timely receipt of budget commitments.

This is a 24/7 availability role. The majority of the work can be performed during the day, and there will be projects that require work to be performed during the maintenance window. Flexibility in scheduling is a requirement.

The primary accountabilities associated with the position include:

  • Performing the engineering and operations functions for the migration and deployment of the production IdMS from VCP 1x to VCP Webscale.
  • Working independently and functioning as the lead in all aspects of deployment and the daily operations of the IdMS VNF.
  • Performing the deployment and operations functions of the production bare metal MRF Tones to virtual dMRF on VCP Core 2.4.
  • Working independently and functioning as the lead in all aspects of deployment and the daily operations of the MRF Tones VNF.
  • Implementing detailed project plans and providing input to weekly meetings with HQP, MTCE, VCP Core and technology manufactures.
  • Working closely with equipment supplier SMEs to deploy feature requirements and implementation plans, and working collaboratively with cross-functional internal teams.
  • Providing expertise regarding routine maintenance, automation and debugging techniques (e.g., Linux, OpenStack, Scripting, Application Deployment and Programming) for the IdMS and MRF Tones NFV.
  • Modifying hardware and software of the IdMS and MRF Tones NVF on the commercial production system.
  • Developing engineering and implementation guidelines and providing direction for the platform evolution of the production IdMS and MRF Tones VNFs (e.g., Openstack/ATLAS/Marketplace).
  • Evaluating new features, services, and technology and translating business objectives and strategies into production network implementation rollout.
  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNS), Application Service Provisioning (APS), Enhanced Internet User Management (eIUM), Multi-Endpoint, and Media Access Control (ME/MACID), NumberLink, FIDO (biometric authentication), ForgeRock OpenAM, OpenIG, OpenDS, NG Security protocols.
  • Developing, running, and analyzing reports for daily KPI measurements to address performance, capacity, and demand growth on the systems.
  • Performing expert-level troubleshooting and debugging of both network and application system issues.
  • Providing call flow debugging expertise utilizing Wireshark and NetScout application.
  • Leveraging knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., Diameter, Radius, Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), SOAP, 3GPP, 3GPP2, IETF, MTAS) specifications to guide multivendor teams during creation or call flows or interface specification for network implementation.
  • Engaging vendors and third-party stakeholders involving contract management, SOW/SLA evaluation, legal and security compliance and reviews, and facilitate purchases and requisitions.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of the VoLTE/IMS Core architecture and call flows.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Experience leading large, highly technical projects inspiring teamwork and openness to other ideas.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A PhD or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or engineering.
  • CCNA, OpenStack, or RedHat Linux certification.
  • Detailed knowledge and direct experience with Oracle/Couchbase database administration, Diameter/RADIUS/TCP/IP, BGP, and authentication protocols (Entitlement, EAP-AKA, and REST API).
  • Experience with Layer 1 and 2 network technologies, data base administration, IPv6, and Verizon 4G/5G architecture and call flow process.
  • Experience with Network Routing and Security call flows.
  • Experience with data center switching and routing design, firewall/load balancing technology and systems.
  • Knowledge of firewalls and load balancers routing, policy and operation.
  • Extensive network management experience, including fault and performance management systems (SevOne, Olympus, IrisView, Netscout, ULM).
  • Extensive knowledge of OpenStack, Linux, and virtualization technologies.
  • Extensive experience with scripting and automation of tasks (bash, Perl, Python, Ansible).
  • Understanding of Verizon MTAS Provisioning and entitlements.
  • Hands-on experience of virtualized implementation (SDN/NFV) of Wireless network nodes under NFV, OpenStack, etc. Understanding of new virtualization techniques (i.e. Cloud native micro services).
  • Knowledge of capital and expense budgeting.
